FASHIONABLE CLOTHING FOR FAT PEOPLE?

Does anybody have some advice or idea about how a fat man should dress if he wants to look good?

Its about me and here is my pic:

Most big guys make the mistake of buying clothes that are too big in the belief it will hide their size when it just makes them look bigger. So first, make sure you buy stuff that fits. Second, don't dress in exercise clothing unless you are exercising, it just looks sloppy. Buy long sleeved shirts. Get a decent pair of shoes/boots made of real leather and ideally a leather sole and keep them clean (or even polished if you want o overachieve). Consider a tailored jacket (nice leather maybe or a good fitting blazer). Sorry about your hand - I presume an industrial accident took the fingers. Consider a pair of gloves like Dr. No.

On the flipside, don't buy slim stuff, you will look like a stuffed sausage. Buy stuff that fits you and suits your bodytype. Nothing huge, nothing tight.

Don't spend any money on clothes. Get a gym membership.

tru dat. A gym membership helps. It had helped me improve my choices in clothing now that I'm a size XL which gives me more selections than when I was a XXL or higher.

Bigger sizes also doesn't mean bigger bucks. You just have to go search in department stores like Macy's or any of your local department stores where they carry many selections and chances are you will find an item that is similar to a designer piece you have seen in the runway for lesser price and in your size.

Like for example, this Tommy khaki cotton oil cloth balmacaan with a removable brown fur collar which is so Prada fall 2013 for a sale price of $99.


I plan to wear this coat with my Marc Jacobs Spring 2002 collection floral print shirt. Which brings me to another example of what a fatty can do to dress fashionably. And that is, if you really really like an item even if it doesn't fit you, just buy it. A tailor will always have a solution. Case in point my slim fitting Marc Jacobs shirt. To make it fit me, I added an inch and a half panel of fabric of similar coloring to the sides of the shirt.


Nice accessories also add a nice touch to simple fits like a sweater and jeans.

I would be careful with "statement coats" or statment anything until you have the basics. While my earlier advice was pretty generic and could apply in all/most circumstances, you did not say if there were specific times/places where you wanted to look good. Workwear is different from clubwear (unless you work in a club I guess). Part of dressing well is being appropriate for the circumstance.

I will echo the gym comments but recognize that it took me until my 40s to get off my ass and lose that extra 60 pounds. The words of a clothing salesman I liked a lot ultimately proved all too true - the best fashion advice is to lose 10 lbs. If you can do more great. Clothes fit better and you have more choices. Even cheap crap looks better on slimmer people (just look at H&M ads).

Sign up for the gym and don't think of it as trying to lose weight, but about being healthier. If you focus too much on losing pounds you'll end up losing motivation. Losing 1-3 lbs a week is considered "healthy" in a weightloss program, but barely noticeable in the mirror unless you do it consistently for weeks. Go to the gym with the mindset of getting healthier and everything will improve. From the pictures you don't even look that fat. You got this icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif


Oh and don't go with styles that make you look even more round, hair styles included.

Sorry you have lost some fingers there. Will you be keeping the large hair? I understand if it is your style but it adds to the fat look, at least it does to my eyes. A haircut and some tailored clothes may be a good start. It doesn't need o be slim fit or anything to slim you, just structured. Or perhaps you can convert the 'fro into dreads, possibly with beads.

well i think short hair is not good for me

i know what you're saying but i think maybe i keep this for a while

There are some elements in that set of pictures that generally disguise weight, including patterns and the contrast collar. However, layering and bulky items like jackets tend to do harm, unless required by the weather or circumstance. (Suits and tailored jackets often are exceptions to that.) Also, re "structured," lightweight fabrics tend to wrinkle easily, which adds to a sloppy impression that "fat" already conveys.
