Allen Edmonds: Protection from the Elements

I recently bought a pair of Park Avenues, but am too nervous to wear them because it has been snowing like crazy, which can get things wet and dirty quick.

Does anyone have a recommendation (link appreciated but not required) to a product for pre-treating my shoes to protect them? A little instruction would be helpful too as I am completely new to even caring about shoe care. I've never done any kind of shoe polishing or anything like it.

Thank you very much, much appreciated.

Anyone have any insights on this? Sorry to bump it.

Polish will protect them from light precipitation. As for how to apply, there is a huge thread about just that, so I will direct you there.

The problem with snow is not the snow, but the salt. Salt will destroy your shoes very quickly.

If it's bad out, you basically have two options, aside from destroying the shoes:
  1. Wear boots for the commute and change into nice shoes at the office.
  2. Buy some overshoes. Swims are the standard.

No treatment will protect them from salty, dirty slush.

Also, beware, leather soles are very, very slick in snow. Most people who live in very snowy climes go with option 1 from what I can tell. Sucks, but when it's really bad out, style goes out the window.
