Slim Fitted clothes/ blazers.. Where to go

I actually like to shop at express because they sell fitted clothing that I prefer. They also have already fitted blazers and pants that I don't have to worry about taking somewhere to get fitted. 

 

So what I was wondering is where else can I get clothing like this. I know people make a big joke out of express and even though I do like them I was wondering where I could go that could be a little more.. expensive and worthy to buy a suit. I'm not looking to spend over a 1,000 on a suit but a nice bang for your buck with the fit of a place like express. 

 

P.S. I've heard places like Top man, J. Crew, and Zara are good. But to me they seem a little cheap for the price they ask. I may be wrong... Let me know. Thanks.

Get a mainline Brooks Brothers suit from an outlet and have it fitted.

Tailors are your friend, and they aren't that expensive. In fact, many BB will tailor the suit for you (don't know about all outlets, but at least sone of these will as well).

Do they have somewhere online I could buy from their Outlet? I do not live any where near one. 

 

Also I've shopped at BB before and I love their store.... Still looking for something more modern and trendy like express but more upscale.. 

 

Anyone else have other ideas.

Brooks Brothers Regent cut is relatively slim fitting and the 1818 line is decent. Retails for $1,000 but don't pay full retail unless you are desperate for something now. The Suiting Essentials line will retail at $600 (again, don't pay full retail) but is not nearly as nice from a fabric and construction perspective. At the very least, you should be able to get a 2 for $1,500 deal fairly often on the 1818 line (if you don't want two suits, that may not be helpful) or buy something during one of their major sales. They have a decent selection online as well and I've been able to return things without an issue, so if you don't live near a store, that could be an option.

The Fitzgerald cut isn't a bad option, but nearly all of them come with a single vent, which is a detail I despise. Milano is even slimmer but some see it as a bit fashion forward (really narrow lapels and such), so probably not great for a conservative environment. If you're only wearing the suit for social outings, I think it would be fine.

$1,000 also can get you a suit from www.mytailor.com if they are visiting anywhere near where you are. Be sure to clearly communicate how you like your suit to fit. In my experience, Joe Hemrajani (the main tailor who travels where I am) will default to something a bit less fitted.

Hey. Thanks for the help! Ya, I will just wait for when they are having a big sale. I do really like the selection they have... Old school style. Very upscale. Very Southern. Which I am a big fan of. 

 

Also though I am looking for a style that compares to Express... New age.. Trendy... Modern. But more upscale than them. Any ideas?

Hugo Boss? It doesn't have many fans on here, but I've never had an issue with them.

And regardless, you should be seeing a tailor if only to have the sleeves shortened.

I see nothing wrong with Express... Im in my mid 20's so I'm still in that young age style. I'd understand someone older shopping with them.

If you go custom, you can get pretty much any style you want. I'd consider the BB cuts I mentioned to be somewhat modern (Milano the most so). Probably worth trying on to see if they fit the modern but more upscale than Express vibe you're going for.

Also I am trying to choose a different store that is why I started this thread..... But i'm still looking for a modern style. The reason I like express is because of their fit. I mostly buy their button down shirts. They have a great fit that is to my liking. Although, I am looking for an upgrade.. lol

Depends on how firm you are holding on to "slim" and what you are looking to spend. Thick as thieves will make you a MTM slim suit which is pretty good (500ish). Suit Supply will be slim, and give you off the rack if you want to avoid measuring tape (PS you shouldn't). After that, the price bumps wa-ay up. Starting around a grand-ish you can snag bespoke from most decent tailors (more as they get more famous of course). Then around that price point you have a few off the rack choices, D&G, or Thom Browne.

 

As far as I can tell, everything between those price points are usually junky, aka Jcrew with their glued together jackets, or any number of fused, boxy things you can get at Nordstrom. If you are shooting for around 750 I've got just about nothing for you.Hope that helps.

If you don't mind ordering from the UK, Charles Tyrwhitt's shirt measurements are roughly comparable to Express' slimmest cut IIRC, and is slimmer than Brooks Brothers ESF and most tailors on Jermyn Street with a web presence. Their shirts have good fabric and nice collars, but may still be baggy for those with narrow waists.

 

Hugo Boss and Hackett have cuts that are slimmer still, but watch out for the chest sizes - if you have a large chest relative to your waist, these may not fit.

 

ModernTailor, ProperCloth, Deo Veritas, etc. etc. all focus on the US for their MTM and have varying levels of quality but most importantly allow you to choose your fit precisely. I cannot attest to their quality.
