Thought on having a tailor shorten the rise in wool pants?

Hi folks,

I have several pairs of wool pants that need a bit taken out of the rise.  I like the Black Fleece pants but their sizing is too limited!  How challenging is this for a tailor?  I would love to hear peoples' experience.  My guess is this is a difficult process that requires a good tailor.

Second, could anyone recommend a good tailor in NYC for this type of service?  I am willing to payup for a job well done.

Thanks

I would recommend against trying to shorten the rise on a pair of pants - if it's even possible, it'd definitely be difficult and expensive, and wouldn't look right in the end.  Just pull up your pants a little higher.

I seem to recall that Chris Despos has written on this but it is a complex operation involving taking out the waist band etc. Try searching.

My tailor does it for me all the time.
He happens to be excellent and his skills are
endorsed by other SF members. It is tricky work
however. The more the rise has to be shortened,
the more problematical the outcome- so 1/2 inch
is very doable 1 1/2 inches less so. Ideal solution:
MTM or bespoke.

thanks for the suggestions.  I do need to find a tailor for this type of stuff in NYC and also MTM - my next step into style...

Despos sounds like the man!  I wish me was in NYC.

I guess I will pull them up for now and look more Thom Browne that I mean to.
