savvy shirt/tie combinations for a charcoal grey suit

Thread Starter

Hi, I recently bought myself a charcoal grey suit for an informal ball coming up and i'm now trying to decide on a stylish shirt/tie/pocket square combination so i thought i'd post the question here so i could get some advice off you guys. I was thinking about a light blue shirt with orange tie and rust pocket square but i then thought that this would be a bit clownish? What do you guys think are a stylish but not conservative choice?

Thanks!

That could look "clownish," yes. Light blue is a rather business color. Also, with a white shirt instead, the pocket square and tie are easier to coordinate. A dark orange tie might work, probably with a mostly white pocket square. Skin, eye, and hair color would help in advising.

it depends on the shade of charcoal.

Shirt colour: Light blue, white, pink/purple, maybe plain, striped or windowpane check.

Tie colour: Would only probably consider navy or purple with maybe a bit of shirt colour in there. I'd avoid plain ties or large paterns, except maybe stripe. Go for complimantary colours for the pocket square or different shades of the shirt/tie combo.
