Just looked up how to do those muscle ups. Ouch. Guess I have something to try next time I'm at the gym though.
Do them on the rings - seriously hard. I learned how to do them from a lifelong friend who was a national level gymnast. Those guys do stuff like that as a matter of course. Of course, he has 3 feet of shoulder and has been yoked since he was about 10 years old. It does stunt your growth a bit though. He is only 5'9", and his dad is considerably taller.
Rings are easier than the bar but the problem is I do them on the cable pulley frame not a dedicated pull up bar so I have to jump up and the tubing is a rectangular solid so it makes it difficult to transition your hands as you're going up but I manage.
Funny thing is I've been doing them for a few months and people always look on in awe but never say anything. Then in the past two weeks I had a total of 4 people ask me about them, quite odd.
Looking forward to doing them tonight since I took wednesday off and went to hollywood last night.
