I repeat what he said about heat and sweat.

I think it's better to get ties that work for the wedding than worry about getting additional usage out of them...the women will be busing entire dresses that they never will wear again ferchrissakes!!!

The fact that you are splitting between a outdoor/ daytime ceremony and an inside/ evening reception makes the choice complicated.

You'll sweat in a suit in that heat, period.  A darker suit will show it less.  Charcoal might be a bit easier in the temperature than Navy, but maybe not.  I'm sure I don't need to say this, but avoid polyester at all costs!  Also, a tighter weave will feel lighter, but it will also breathe less, so see if you can't find a suit with a fairly open weave that still has the look you want.  I don't know if you'll find such a beast, but you can always look.

Hi

I know this has been around for a while but i cant really find all the answers on SF so i hope members will help me

Getting married 19th of October

I don't know what suit color or style to get and don't know what tie or type of tie to get

This suit looks great in my opinion.

I don't want to look ordinary of course but i believe tailcoat might be too much

I know that the best answer would be "depends on me" but i need some guidelines like what is proper and what not, which color style or tie etc..

So please advise on

Style

Color

Tie

shoes

Is the suit in the link above good?

Plus i recently found Zegna suit from local Zegna shop for around 700 euro (c.920$) (apparently after 40% discount)

Its black suit..

MTM service from that Zegna store is just below 2000$ starting which is out of my budget

For shirt i will probably use Proper Cloth website or Virtual Horse Store (though my neck is kinda bigger than standards measurements)

Thank you all

Bane

I didn't realise splitting the event would be much of an issue. I've been to a few split weddings but in retrospect they've All had ceremony and reception at separate locations so there has been an opportunity to change and ''freshen up" (also none were in summer iirc an unfortunate last minute change).

What sort of material should I be looking for in my suit then? Does that mean higher or lower 100s or is there something else I should be looking out for (style/brand/etc). Ill likely be getting mtm if I can afford it or otherwise saw a navy isaia on the b/s that might be my size...

Weddings are more enjoyable when they are split up. Having an hour or two to have a rest, shower and change of clothes into evening attire is very welcome.

I make sure to change from day attire to evening. If that isn't possible, I at least change my shirt and especially my tie. Lighter tie for day, dark tie or bow tie for evening. smile.gif

I share you opinion. That suit would like great for a wedding, and would look great for non-wedding stuff too. The most important thing however is how well it fits you. Have you tried it on?

There are a lot of factors....time of day, place (big formal church, on a beach...), and degree of formality. Take a cue on the last one based on what the bride is wearing. Is she wearing a massive formal gown? Then it's formalwear for you. Is she wearing a short dress? Then you can get away with a suit.

Thx for the reply

I did not try it. I found it on the website of Kings and Allen. I wanted to go there for bespoke or MTM but i need to go at least 2-3 times which will cost me 2000$ just for the trip (i live in Cyprus)

So i decided to DIY it. I found black suit in Zegna for about 920$; white vest for about 270$; shirt for 200$ all from Zegna. (apparently after 40% discount).

The tie, i knew that would be a problem so i called Kings and Allen but they could not help me. However i found something similar on the website of Lorenco Cana here

Thanks for confirming that this is appropriate suit. Lets hope that i can do some nice matching.

If you have some other ideas advice pls share them

Many thanks Becnal

It is formal wedding.

Afternoon is the church than a cocktail followed by a dinner.

The bride has classic long white dress

I am pretty sure that formal would do but before i checked on this forum i was gonna go with black 2-piece suit, white shirt, black tie. Then i found out that i would look like going on funeral or maybe ready to give Power Point presentation at workbiggrin.gif

So I just wanted to check what kind of suit i should look for. I posted a link in my original post.  This suit

If you are having a church wedding and she is wearing a formal long gown you need to go with formalwear. Considering your budget I would say look for a better rental facility (ie not Men's Wearhouse) and get something that is high-quality and is fitted well to you. There are people here who will tell you that you are better off getting a suit that you own because they go into hysterics at the thought of renting...but you will be wasting money and your etiquette will technically be incorrect.

If the wedding is late afternoon, but the majority of the event is going to be in the evening you want to go for a classic tux at a minimum-but I say go for white tie and tails...how many times in your life will you have the opportunity to put that on? There are also some who will say, "Ooooh....Daytime Wedding! That means Daytime formalwear!" But trust me, you will look far better in a tux at 4 in the afternoon that you will look in a Morning Suit at 8 at night.

Thx for the reply

The problem with living in small island is that i cant find same services as in big places like USA or UK satisfied.gif

So there is absolutely no decent rental service.

My budget is around 1500$-1700$ which is just enough for some designer suit (Zegna or Armani or Canali) and accessories, which if i go i think i would go black suit, white vest, white shirt, white or silver tie black shoes. What do you think?

You are right tail tux is something i cannot wear often but there is no tailor that i can really trust here. Probably because i am complete novice in this

For my budget i could get descent bespoke or MTM from London's stores like Cad and the Dandy or similar from what i saw on this forum. The problem here is that the trip will cost me double.

Local tailors..not sure if i can trust them

I really appreciate your time to advise me

I am in partial agreement with Mr. D. I think that formalwear would be best, and I think that a tuxedo would be appropriate in these circumstances. White tie is just incredibly difficult to put together, and to put together well. I can count on one hand the amount of times I have seem white tie done even adequately. And it sounds that living in Cyprus it may be a bit difficult to get everything together. I agree with Mr. D. that morning dress would be unwise. I would be going for evening wear if the festivities are starting around 4:00.

The one thing I disagree on is that a suit would be inappropriate. As an aside, this is not to say that a navy suit is ideal, but I understand that people have budgetary concerns. I think that a well-fitted suit is generally superior to a poorly fitting black / white tie rig. Even more difficult is to find a black tie rental that is even remotely proper now-a-days. I think that a well fitted navy suit would be appropriate if done properly. I would aim to look like this chap:

Navy suit, preferably single breasted. White shirt. Wedding tie. White pocket square. Black oxfords. Red carnation, or some other flower. Easy, simple, elegant, and will not break the bank. It can also easily traverse the 4:00 to evening window.

I would strongly advise against wearing a black suit.

The suit you picked is good. If you want something more formal, then go for a "stroller". The top level of daytime formal wear is a morning coat. The second level is a stroller. It's a black jacket, grey trousers, light grey vest, and a tie such as silver or light blue. Third level of formality would be your grey suit above.

But there's no reason you can't get this all in Cyprus.
