White shirt.

Option 1: "Wedding" tie, e.g. black-and-white tie in a small scale pattern (glen plaid, shepherd's check, houndstooth)

Option 2: Textured solid black or gray tie. e.g. grenadine, knit, wool/silk. Just don't wear a shiny satin, repp, etc.

Option 3: Black or gray pindot tie, preferable with texture.

Don't wear colors. Don't wear large-scale patterns.

White shirt. Black and white patterned wedding tie or solid silver / grey tie. Nothing with too much sheen, though.

Ok this is the look I've decided I will go for evening Tails. Not sure which I should go for between these two:

while my grooms men (I will have only 2) will go for something like this:

Btn Moss hire, Debenham Hire and Oliver brown who would you recommend?

There's some weird photoshop stuff happening in that first picture. The right side is technically correct, with the vest not poking out below the front of the coat, but it's been done by pshop (and badly at that).

The third picture is incorrect - vest too long.

If you're going to have your groomsmen in black tie while you're in white tie, please at least insist on them having a proper classic tuxedo - 1 button and preferably peak lapels, or shawl as the bare minimum. While there are arguments which can and have been made for notch lapels on a tuxedo as Mr. Clooney is sporting above (I'm personally against them, but that's not for this discussion), the relative level of formality of them is too far below your white tie. That said, it's unlikely your guests will notice. But, if you're going to the effort to dress in white tie, at least have your groomsmen as close in formality to yourself as you can, otherwise the effort is half-baked and you might as well go with something from one of the ridiculous bridal magazines.

Agreed with all Raggedy said above. In terms of ideal look/fit, this should be your inspiration:

  • @milesdavisjr - I would suggest going custom for both of the jackets.

Hey there

I am starting to put together some ideas for my outfit for my wedding this summer. Overall i am going for a more relaxed look, don't like wedding ties at all and wear "normal" ties at work all the time, so looking to settle with a more casual bow tie. I bought this suit already and am thinking about these AE (in walnut):

Looking for recommendations now for bowtie, shirt and pocket square

Bowtie: grey should work, thought about linen, like this https://www.thetiebar.com/product/BL189ST

Shirt: i am thinking light blue stripe? or just go off-white/white to keep it simpler?

Pocketsquare: want to get some color in there, personally would love something orange but the color theme is gray/dark purple, struggling to decide if the blue of the suit works with a purplish pocket square?

What do you guys think?

Suit and shoes look nice. Wear a white shirt and white ps.

That bow tie isn't my thing at all.

I've decided to go for Evening Tails that will come with white bow tie etc. Will hire that from MOSS BROS

any advise 2 of my groomsment should go for? Obviously they'll have to go for a white tie though they are not keen on wearing evening tails

inputs and pics will do...

Actually they do not need to wear the white tie unless they are also wearing tail.

It will perfectly fine and acceptable for the groom to be in evening tail and the groomsmen in full Tuxedo/dinner suit with black bow ties. I am pretty sure you will be the only ones in formal and semi formal evening dresses that there will be no doubt about who is in the wedding party.

Edit: in terms of Dinner suit suggestions, all the below examples are from Ede & Ravenscroft, and are good examples of you can find similar versions as rental: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Note the single button closure on single breasted jackets, and peak or shawl lapels, as well as the absence of pockets flaps on all three.

They needn't wear tails. They can wear tuxes while you wear tails.

Im surprised and worried maybe its nothing

When I went to Moss Bros Hire, the lady just took my trouser and neck measurement and gave me a trouser to try on

Afterwards she gave me a sample morning coat to try on as they didnt have the tails

She didn't take shirt or waist coat measurements.....Is this something I should be worried about or?

Any suggestions about the type of white shirts I can have?

What about bowties..Which is better between pre-tied or untied?

Definitely get a self-tie bow tie. Few things are worse than going to all the effort to dress in formal clothes and not being able to tie and untie a bow tie.

Thank you

should I be concerned that the Moss Bross hire shop attendant didnt take shirt and vest measurements?
