Back again with another idea.
So I'm still set on having dark blue/navy suit and asking groomsmen to wear their own suits in same colour. But now I've been considering going with something lighter like a linen suit or tropical wool and silk or linen blend probably minimal or unstructured since its a summer wedding and I'm getting my suit mtm anyhow.
Would this look odd though? Since I assume all my groomsmen will be wearing standard navy wool suits from their business wardrobe will I be in danger of appearing underdressed at my own wedding ?

I would think so. Imagine being at a business meeting where all the other men were in dark, formal suits and you were in a unstructured, light linen suit.

+1. I think a tropical worsted is probably fine, but linen / linen cotton / etc. are going to look more casual.

For comparison's sake, the other key elements are a dark charcoal grey jacket (w/peaked lapels & jetted pockets), white french cuff shirt, white linen pocket square, black shoes. Any thoughts/opinions on the tie? Am I over-thinking / over-worrying things in the leadup to the wedding, or do you agree that a simpler tie may work better?

I think you will be fine with the waistcoat. The tie won't be anywhere close to the trousers, so the patterns will be separated.

I finally took a few photos. The lighting was off; the last photo is probably the closest representation of the actual colours (the others appear too dark):

After further reflection, I think I'm actually okay with the tie. The shepherd's check seems pretty "busy" when you're looking in the mirror, but from more than a couple feet away it looks pretty good IMO. The only other thing I'm thinking is whether it's worth it to change the waistcoat buttons to a lighter colour, but at this point, I don't know how necessary that would be.

Looks great to me. Just stuff that pocket square in a little more and consider the four-in-hand. I don't think the knot works that well with the tie.

The shirt collar looks really roomy too, perhaps it hasn't been washed yet but it looks too big from the side angle shot you can see a lot of space, that's also why the knot isn't sitting as well as it should, but a four in hand will look better. Back to the collar though the general shape is a bit flat and informal for me, given its a French cuffed shirt. It's kind of not spread, not pointed and the points aren't quite long enough. If you have a more cutaway collar with longer points I think would lift the fit as a whole up a few notches.

I am not one of anti-Windsor Knotsis...but it does seem a bit bulbous. How about a Half Windsor? I like the use of a Windsor in this kind of outfit in any case...I think it adds to the air of aristocracy...but maybe the tie is just too thick?

Thanks for the feedback everyone, very much appreciated. To respond to the specific points above:

Knot: Believe it or not, the knot is a four-in-hand. I often use a half-windsor on my other "everyday" ties, but the Kent Wang ties are so thick that anything other than a FIH is pretty ridiculous. That being said, I did tie it pretty quickly and the knot in the photo is probably a little too far down the length (making it bigger than it should be). However, given the thickness of the tie, I think the knot is going to be fairly substantial no matter how I tie it. I suppose I could try ironing it to flatten it down a bit, but in my experience, any kind of tie care (i.e. dryclean, iron, etc) is best avoided if at all possible.

Shirt: You are correct that the shirt hasn't been washed yet, so it's a tad wrinkly and stiff in the photo. It's a BB extra-slim fit shirt, which is what I typically wear. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel when so many other shirts just don't fit me that well. With most other OTR shirts, to get a reasonable fit, I have to size down to the point where the sleeves are way too short.

Pocket Square: Thanks for the feedback. I had literally just stuffed it in there at the last minute to help provide a general idea of how it would look together (minus the boutonnière). I'll certainly take a little more care on the day of.

whatever you do, don't iron it. i'm sure with some finagling you can get the knot to look smaller. i bought that exact tie for someone in my wedding, and it tied just fine.

That's probably the case, which is why the tie looks so wide.

Good to know; I'll play around with the tie to shrink the knot down.

Just for ***** and giggles. Well, frankly for all of the Windsor Knotzis who were giving Imthegroom grief over wearing a Full Windsor with his Morning Suit: Here is a picture of the recent wedding of Prince Felix of Luxembourg. Good enough for European royalty....but not for some on Style Forum who treat the very thought of a Windsor Knot (in any form) a heresy.

Practically speaking, I would get a navy suit in an all season weight, and not a summer weight. Your navy suit is your go-to for job interviews, presentations, etc., generally speaking. This would end up requiring you to own two navy suits, one of which you'll rarely wear. You'll rarely go to your closet for a summer event, looking for a suit, and say "I think navy is the order of the day." A summer weight suit is best in a light colour, as you'll get the most wear out of it that way. I'd stick to your original plan, both to coordinate better with the rest of the wedding party, and to get the most out of your investment in the suit in the long run.
