Brand new here, couple questions. Thanks

Thread Starter

I apologize for the lengthy post but...First off I'd like to introduce myself. 21 year old college student, from Rhode Island. First post here but not new to forums at all. Ive been slowly trying to step up my wardrobe, it was too immature and I wanted to get some classier, nicer things in my closet. Started just with some simple polo pastel button downs that I could find on sale at Marshalls and other places in place of the American eagle and Hollister shirts I previously had (what I consider high school clothes). Trying to keep stepping it up a notch but not easy on a college budget but working on it.

1. Which bring me here while searching for shoes to wear with some clothes I was given for christmas. I was given some yellow (more faded not saturated) dresspants/chinos (best description), a grey vest, and a tie to match the pants. Now I was thinking with a white shirt this could be a nice look but I was unsure of what color shoes. I have a nicer pair of brown shoes and an okay pair of black shoes, I'm afraid the black/yellow combo would look to bumblebee ish however im unsure of brown shoes with a grey vest. I don't have pictures at the moment to upload.

2. My second question was, for christmas my parents agreed to get me a decent suit and get it properly tailored. I like the look of the modern suit, like many of the ones I see on GQ and the sort, not sure if thats popular on here but just for a reference point. If I was looking in the $400-800 range I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions that fit that criteria because I really don't know where to start short of walking into macy's etc. I was trying to go grey because I like it and feel it can be casual or classy.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks

1. If you like the brown shoes, wear them. Brown and grey works. That's about as good as you can get without pictures. Also, don't wear the vest without a sportcoat.

2. Look here. And I would suggest going with the navy or charcoal. You'll get a Brooks Brothers suit under $800, and the Milano is slim enough to make you happy, but will still get you through an interview when you need it.
