I turned the profits from my find into the vehicle which allows me to get to thrift stores.

Ex A:

for a mere ~$3.15, I get almost 100 mpg.  It would take a week consisting of 10 stops a day to account for one gas tank in a 15-25 mpg vehicle.  I don't make much money, so avoiding a $60 gas tank fill AND finding sicknasty things I can wear and flip is the perfect balance for my OCD shopping tendencies.  The Gucci crocs opened that door for me.  I haven't been thrifting as much in the winter given that I don't use a car.  Maybe eazye can relate to this.  We all do this for different reasons, but turning my thrift find into real cash allowed me to up my game significantly.

Is there a hanger attachment on the back for those 10 Kiton suits you've just thrifted?

Ok, So I guess I gotta do a little campaigning...being that I am the only one on the list with 2 nominations, btw, is there gonna be an honorable mention for that accomplishment? haha....

PART I

John Lobb Lopez Loafer

Purchased them in a "Boutique" section of a Thrift Store that normally has all the Macy's garbage marked up.

I believe they made their way in there because they were in next to perfect shape and not because the person choosing the inventory for that section knew their shit.

Before this miracle happened.... I RARELY ever looked at shoes. I just never made it a priority of mine when I went out hunting and it would normally be the last section for me to check...ONLY IF I didnt find anything else and was on the verge of leaving the store with nothing. True shopping addiction.

That day I decided to go into the "Boutique" section for shits and giggles and thought "hmm, lets check out the shoes"

This pair caught my eye because the shoe trees were in them and they stood out from all the other shoes there. When I flipped the shoes over to look at the maker...I almost had a panic attack.

In addition to that, they were my exact size 8.5 and fit like a glove.

The funny thing is how I was practically broke and if it wasnt for me having a joint account with my little brother, I wouldnt have been able to borrow some cash and transfer it to my account right there and then so I could walk out with them.

So why does this entry deserve more votes?

1. John Lobb Lopez

2. In "Worn-Once" Condition

3. My exact size!

4. Shoe Trees were included!

5. Was broke and was able to borrow money from my brother who RARELY has any money to spare so that I could walk out with them that night.

6. Purchase Price=$50, Sold For=$536

All in all, everything fell right into place.

PART II

Dior Homme Jacket

So this one is also one of those weird ones.

I was doing my thing, flipping through the jackets/suits and almost passed this one up. In fact, I did pass it up and went back to it.

I move so fast on the racks that my mind registered this one as a dinner jacket and I kept moving but when I realized a weird hang loop on the collar that said Paris...I had to go back just to make sure it wasnt anything. I opened the jacket and on the left...there it was DIOR in silver.

I quickly grabbed it off the rack and threw it in my basket and went on my way scouring the rest of the store with a smile on my face.

This jacket is from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection which makes it even more of an insane thrifting miracle.

Current research of completed auction listings under "Blazers and Sport Coats" on the 'bay show that the highest Sold For price was $909 for a jacket from a collection in 2005.

Currently, the most RECENT garment from any collection listed for sale is from 2010. It seems as if people really like to hang on to their recent Dior Homme pieces and most pieces appear to be from 2008 and earlier.

The amount of detail on this jacket shits on the rest of the ones ive seen so far on ebay.

Floating Canvas Construction

Hidden Functional Cuffs

Satin Under Lapels

Removable and Reversable Militant Pin/Button Fastening for the Lapel

If and when I decide to put this on the market...it will more than likely be the only most recent piece up for sale...thus bringing in more of an audience+higher sale price.

So why does this entry deserve more votes?

1. Dior Homme, A rare find all in its own

2. Piece from last season. The fact that it is so recent and that it is impossible to find anyone even on the 'bay selling such a recent piece makes it even more rare!

Anyways....

Glad to be a part of this. Its very exciting. Everyone here has been very helpful and its nice to see what others are finding, its very inspiring and it makes me get out there in the trenches even when its dry!

Good luck to all of those nominated!

I was bummed i didn't get my RLPL cashmere suit in here in time, until I saw all the other offerings... NO WAY. That was baller, but most of these items take it to a new level.

In terms of keeping the item, I'd be most excited to find eazye's RLPL coat in my size.
Which one of these items wound up being a 4 figure flip?

Would they have been a 4 figure flip without getting them reworked to new condition? As the final worth they win. But they cost $250 to get to the condition they were in. So you got 10x the investment.

Mine was $5 and cleared $700. Almost a 150x profit.

I think there should be a limit on the cost. Just sayin
post #39 of 77
edit: they sold for $697. almost 700. They were 15.9 grams of 18K gold.

Here's some pictures. I had all the bags (suede carry case and the paper Tiffany shopping bag) and the Tiffany card in the original envelope. I purchased these for $5.00 and bought 5 other gold pieces and silver pieces but these were the best. I don't have any other pics because the ebay listing was like 4 months ago and I deleted most of the pics from my computer.

Kind of a shame most of this stuff got sold. If I found gold Tiffany cuff links I'd keep them as a thrifting trophy/heirloom to pass down someday.

Was going to vote for the Lobbs since they were new and the finder's size, but I'm bummed to see those got flipped too.

I honestly believe that if the Thrift Bragging thread was dominated by SW&D heads...The voting scales would be very different.

Itd be an intense battle for the top between my Dior Homme SS12 jacket and Rayxlui's YSL Rive Gauche Leather Jacket with Thom Browne coming in at #3.

I think that if had I sold my Dior Homme jacket, Right now I would be battling for spots #2 or #3 because of the winning bid price. I doubt it wouldve cleared 2k like the Gucci loafers but I'd be willing to bet it wouldve cleared 1k.

Im curious to know if the YSL Rive Gauche was sold. Anyone know?

I wish there were categories to make it easier to vote...

As of right now my votes are....

Jewelry

1. Tiffany Cufflinks

2. Gold Buttons

Im gonna go with Gold Buttons on this. Only because im not a huge fan of french cuff shirts and I'd rather show off my gold buttons. haha.

Suits

1. Kiton

2. Thom Browne

3. Band of Outsiders

My vote would go to the Thom Browne. Even though the Kiton sounds very luxurious, im positive that the cut of the suit wouldnt look good on me and I prefer slimmer cut garments.

I totally understand how you feel. I kind of felt bad selling them but I would have been neurotic every time I would wear them, knowing how much they were worth and how they could fall out easily. It would be a distraction to me. Plus my house got robbed like six months prior and I lost a large amount of gold/silver jewelry so I kind of got antsy. and I'm poor musicboohoo[1].gif

Similar to why I sold the buttons, would have been very upset to leave my jacket somewhere. Also, they looked kinda odd on the jacket. Luckily was able to keep the jacket after selling the buttons. and as one poster said earlier, it does look better with the current buttons.

My wife's gone with  a few times and we go through the SC's and she says, "are those gold", "are those gold"....

Does anyone know how to publicize this poll on the SW&D side of the forum? I tried to keep an even balance between everything, but so far it looks like the people voting are ignoring the SW&D stuff.

Pretty sure you can just create a thread with the same title over there, and link the OP to this poll.
