Vintage Brooks Brothers peacoat. Not sure how old, but at least '50s, maybe older. I need to email Brooks and see if they can give me more info.

CROOKS LIKE US
By Peter DOYLE

In the 1920s Sydney police began quietly assembling a gallery of the city's most light-fingered, fleet-footed, silver-tongued rogues and con artists, magsmen, housebreakers, thugs, gunmen, shoplifters, drug dealers, pickpockets and hooligans. These extraordinary images resurfaced in the 1980s, long after the original paperwork had been lost and the crooks, the cops and all who remembered them had passed on. Based on years of research into police files, court records, newspapers and other sources, Crooks like us offers a glimpse into the difficult lives of these fugitive souls and what they did, who they hurt, who hurt them, where they came from and, sometimes, where they ended up. Illustrated with rich, emotionally charged police Special Photography from the Justice & Police Museum, Sydney, Crooks like us opens a secret door onto Sydney's hidden histories.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I was using "pea coat" as a general term for the style, but it's helpful to know the right term. Any more info about when this style coat was in use?

World War ii.The insignia on the shoulder of the coat is a US Army AIr Corps Class A patch.

I was not aware that such insignias were in use at the same time that uniforms carried specific unit insignias.
For example, my Dad was in the 8th Air Force during the War. I remember his uniform and leather jacket
carried 8th Air Force insignias

Hey guys,

I haven't posted much, but i found something in a thrift store that is pretty interesting. It's a jacket with tails made for the late pianist Claudio Arrau in 1976. Besides the buttons being a little worn, its in pretty good condition. I don't know if its the sort of thing that will end up in a museum or a costume shop, but I guess we'll find out. If anyone knows some way that might help me find a proper home for this, I would be very appreciative.

Sorry the pics aren't great

Those are confusing...and interesting. The last shape with the cut in waist and the design of the toecap is pure 20s but the heels are 40s/50s.

Maybe it is a purely orthopaedic shape that is suitable for the particular person.

No one in the 1930s-50s would have worn a shoe in that style.

Wow, that is so awesome!! A piece of history. I wonder what performances were played in that garment. Thanks so much for sharing.

Bespoke morning suit from the late 1950s. Needs a good cleaning. Jacket is undamaged. Vest has many holes. Trou have one hole. Fits me pretty well. Not that I have much demand to wear a morning suit, but I think I will keep it. At least as much handwork as I've ever seen.
