Whoa, I haven't been in here in eons- I'd even forgotten my password. What a threak to come back to... thanks for sharing all of these great finds, men!
Vintage Givenchy (first Vintage example that wasn't a polyester POS!) Size 36 S
Vintage (dated 1967) Lightweight Sport Coat, size 38/39 S. I love the colors and styling, a bit Ivy and a bit Continental. (The top button is there, it's just a little rolled off of frame.)
Found earlier in the year: a bespoke Chesterfield overcoat, tailored in 1927 for the Rt Hon FW Bampfylde (2nd son of the 2nd Baron of Poltimore). Bought for £12.50 and recently flipped for £250
Holy crap! This belongs in a museum!I bought this navy blue polka dot Sulka silk robe a few years ago, but never actually wore it. I am considering getting it tailored. It's dated to 1951, and would fit a size 48 comfortably, so I would be getting it tailored down to a 40. It's cut like a raincoat complete with a button to fasten the lapels around the throat, which I would have associated with a much older piece, say from the 1930s. I would prefer to have a rolled collar like the Red robe below. Would it be a disgrace to mess with this piece? It's in excellent condition, and is complete with belt with tassels. Slight rip in the stitching under one of the arms but other than that is excellent. What do you guys think? By the way does anyone know how to get Imageshack to display images the right way up? No matter how I rotate them they always end up sideways.
A topcoat from a Toff, Perfect.

Yes I know. That's why I wondered whether getting it cut down to size 40 would be sacrilege?
I'm of two minds. It seems a shame to cut down something like that, even if you have a tailor who can do a good job with it. On the other hand, you may never find one in your size, and it deserves to be worn.
Yea, that's a tough call. If it were mine, I'd probably have it re-made, although, a 48 to 40 conversion is pretty severe.

Sacrilege. Sorry. (Full disclosure, I'm a museum curator.)
It just means there's enough fabric to work with. With those peak lapels there may be enough left over to construct shawl collar that he was interested in.
