Here's Sean Penn's rant about GWB. Pretty strong! Do you feel it is over the top or not?

Here is my opinion from another post:

Quote: "

Compare that to Nick Berg's beheading: http://wizbangblog.com/2004/05/11/the-video.php"

My response to tiecollector:

"No one seems to criticize GWB around here more than I. But "Hate him!". No, I certainly don't. The man is POTUS!

I think he is arrogant, incompetent, and intellectually incurious in that order. I would say I hold him in contempt, but not hate!

I just heard Sean Penn on TV with his outburst about GWB and his daughters! Penn's words seem to border on hatred. I have a much warmer spot in my heart for GWB, which would be better described as contempt, rather than hatred!

Here is the link to Sean Penn's rant:
http://kcbs.com/pages/320047.php?con...ntentId=386690

This would certainly be fodder for a new thread. Even I don't agree with Penn's comments, but he has the right to say them."

I really, really think GWB is incredibly incompetent and have never voted for him or his brother. That said, the whole "blood for oil halliburton fahrenheit 911 neocon Katrina" whinefest from the left is absolutely ridiculous. In another thread on here I dared suggest that GWB might not be evil, just incredibly incompetent. Several posters came shrieking in and godwinned the thread, equating him to Hitler. Just silly.

I really would love a moderate, sane person to vote for, preferably from the democratic party. I doubt I will get it.

Thank God. I was getting very worried that none of Hollywood's elite had spoken out about George W. Bush, Iraq and the war against terrorism in general.

I just wish they would have the courage to address those issues in movies, books, television and music so I know there are people opposed to the Bush administration.

I agree with you 100%. It is silly and counterproductive to say that GWB is evil.

I have been steadfast in saying he is arrogant, incompetent, and intellectually incurious! In a nutshell, he's contemptible, not evil!

Sean Penn's opinion is worth no more than anyone on this Forum. Just because he is a successful actor does not give him special geopolitical acumen.

Now if someone were to say that Dick Cheney is pure evil, that would be a harder argument to refute!

Dick " Tricky " Cheney appears struggling not to let one out.

If he makes a particularly good point it should be recognized, just as if anyone else has.
After all, there are a number of people at or around Mr. Penn's acumen who make their opinions heard and who's statements and arguments can influence our positions on issues.Just by the nature of his work, he isn't automatically an imbecile.

There are thousands of non-political authors who lend their unsolicited opinions and are never attracted for it like actors are.
Guys like Jon Stewart, Keith Olberman the South Park creators, and Rush Limbaugh, have no formal political training, but shape countless opinions, without being attacked for it.
While I often disagree with him, I love his work, and think he seems like a decent fellow and lest we forget his response to Katrina was faster than our presid

Decent fellows do not beat their wives up. You might want to ask Madonna what a decent fellow Sean is. Perhaps you should ask a few of the papperazzi who felt his wrath.

He got to N.O. quickly, sunk a little boat and consumed the resources available for others to get him out of his little jam.

Sean Penn is a zit on the face of humanity.

Well, he has been to jail and can speak of a prisoner's plight with a genuine perspective!

I have no idea about any of this stuff except - I fully support the right of any celebrity to beat the ever-loving **** out of any papparazzi they choose. If Sean Penn is a zit, then they are full-blown malignant tumors.

I think celebrity politics are silly and I think that the foaming-at-the-mouth hatred of left-wing celebrities is silly.

I think foaming-at-the-mouth ANYTHING is silly, in fact, which extends all the way from PETA to the Robertson/Falwell/Haggard brigade.

+1. He also brought a photographer with him on his "mission of mercy". Sheesh.

I don't care about Madonna, she is doing right these days even modeling for H&M

The point is GWB is the worst president in the history of the USA

A true sign that the occidental civlization decline has started

Where did this idea come from that it takes courage to speak out against the government these days? The only ones I hear talking about it are people claiming to be steadfast in the face of persecution. What, is Spielberg not going to cast Penn in a role because of his politics?

I think I differ from others in thinking that celebrities and other role models have a duty to live publicly straightforward lives and speak out their opinions. I certainly would not be silent if I were given a platform. I respect what he's doing, but disagree with almost everything he says. The only "particularly good point" he made was that it's a travesty for medevac flights to only be scheduled for nighttime. Really, he didn't say a single insightful thing, other than that Iranians are more devoted to the separation of church and state than anyone on earth...especially those damn Europeans and officially atheistic Chinese...

Whenever actors make political pronouncements I cannot help but recall Team America: World Police and the "Film Actors Guild" (F.A.G.) ...

As for GWB, never ascribe to malice what may be more simply explained by incompetence (Ockham's razor, corollary #9)
