What do you do to like shoes that you hate?

I've recently had a bad purchase at Barkers. Essentially:

1. The salesman tricked me into buying un-matched shoes (one was on display and faded) claiming it was the polish and lighting.
2. When I've sent them back for a re-dress to resolve it they made the toe substantially darker than the rest of the shoes and it looks horrific.

They told me to send it back again but I don't think they can save it. I'm sure you've all had similar experiences. When you end up with shoes (or anything) that really bothers you what do you do to remedy your hate?

* Please refrain from comments like 'deal with it' its simply not constructive.

Get your money back

I'd insist on a replacement pair. Unless you got them at a substantial discount, as-is.

Return them.

1) You didn't get "tricked." You're too simple-minded to trust your own eyes.
2) Are you the guy who made that other thread about brown caps on walnut shoes?

You're wrong, I've never had that experience (see #1). Return the shoes, and cut your losses.

I would like to see photos.

Yeah you're right I should have had more faith in my own judgement and yeah that's me I tried to like it but failed. I think they are walnut too but they are sold as burgundy for some reason.

Thankfully it at least looks better with flash.

I think I will do what everyone suggested and ask for a replacement pair or a refund.

Those aren't the shoes that I had in mind. It looks like the darkness is because of the folds and fading. If they're pre-owned, I would guess that they were polished with a darker color than that of the original leather. Honestly, the color is the least of your problems. It looks like the store employees may have taken them out on the town a few times. I hope that you got a DEEP discount for those. Returning them may be a hard-sell.

Unfortunately they are first hand and I got them at full price... It was my first pair of good shoes and I didn't know what to expect. I've saved up to buy them so I'm quite disappointed.

If you can't return them you can darken the whole shoe to balance it out. Frankly in the photos they don't look that bad to me. But I can understand that if you wanted something lighter that they would bother you.

couldn't see too big a difference in color but Gdot is right,
using black shoe polish could add some darkness that could even out the colors potentially

Well, if you bought them new, then you probably won't be able to return them. It looks like you've beaten the shxt out of those shoes. If you bought them at full price in that condition, then you're a sucker. They probably spotted you a block away, lol.

I'd invest in shoe trees and give them a nice polish. Make the best of the situation.

If the color differential was due to one being on display, the store should have at least offered you a discount.

A bit of update. I went back to the store I bought the shoes from and I had a chance to talk to the very same salesman who sold me the shoes. He was very sincere about what happened and he immediately replaced the shoes. I was really surprised by how little effort I needed to employ. I had a few points lined up in my gambit list so I could get a replacement but I didn't even need to use any.



They look great now.

I really liked how the salesman genuinely tried to help it most certainly restored my faith.

...glad that it worked out for you. Those look great. It's good that you ran into the same salesperson. The fact that they sold you shoes in that condition for full-price is a disgrace. My guess is that he tried to get one over on you.
