When thinking about suits vs. odd ensembles, it's worth remembering that suits make you look taller and thinner.

Agreed. And I would add that avoiding looking stuffy is less about the clothes and more about (1) being slender; (2) being stylishly groomed; and (3) having the clothes cling to the contours of your (shapely) body. If you meet all these criteria, you'll look stylish regardless of how you choose to dress.

mostly SC and trousers primarily dictated by my current professional and personal surroundings. But, I will always find reasons and excuses to wear suit if I can w/o being too out of place. Although I wore a suit last Friday to a local favorite "casual" dining spot with my wife. The owner (a friend) was like "FU too a$$hole"

Neither is better, one's just more formal. Well, for the most part...

I might be way off base here, but I think women are much more impressed when you wear a suit. I find odd jackets and trousers done well are incredibly impressive when done well, but I think most women are none the wiser. So I guess it depends on why you dress the way you do. If it's to be the envy of SF poasters in WAYWT forum, then odd jackets/trousers. If it's to impress women (or anyone you are trying to gain favor from, like clients), then suits are the more obvious choice. If you are merely dressing for yourself, then just do what you think looks best.

I think that a lot of people don't understand that an odd jacket, pants and tie outfit isn't a suit. It depends on what look you're going for. Each style offers something that the other doesn't.
