the hell is clearance tax

UPS is still probably going to charge you for delivering an international package. And I'm sure everybody else will as well, either they will still charge some kind of surcharge for filing paperwork or whatever or they'll create a new kind of fee.

yeah let's just guess and make things up ^

they didn't charge for items under the $200 threshold so I wouldn't automatically assume they'll start charging a fee. they are already getting paid to deliver the thing, it would be pretty scummy if they decided to just add another charge to the recipient.

You're probably right. fwiw though I have had packages come before that were under $200 that still had a charge associated with it that came in the mail later on, it was usually $10-$20 so I just paid it.

LN-CC charging DDP on orders under $800 to the US? Does that make sense?

Anybody try to order stuff from Frans Boone or Norse store? Did you guys get hit with a brokerage fee?

I know that we can get $800 worth of stuff duty free, but that doesn't stop FedEx and UPS from trying to nickel and dime the shit out of the packages.

I don't understand how this kind of extra fee can just get thrown in without the company stating so explicitly, they are already getting paid the shipping and if the new law means nothing under 800 has to go thru the long process of paperwork or customs fees why would they charge extra? If people keep getting these charges and we aren't given a clear answer by UPS/Fedex we need to step up and tell the retailers "hey we aren't going to order thru you until you change carriers because we are getting taxed by these guys even though we are under the limit" which would in turn force the companies to make a decision hopefully complaining to the couriers making them drop these "hidden fees".

Just saw this on the fransboonestore website in a pop up window

US Customers Important Notice

Starting from March 16th 2016, US clients importing form EU are able to order up to $800, free of import tax. Clearance (customs) cost will be collected, by UPS like before.

I assume this is the fees people keep posting about? It seems we don't have to pay the tax but everything else is still included lol we really only have ourselves to blame though did we really think we were gonna get by with a free pass lol

New to shipping overseas, but what's the most cost-effective way to ship to France from the US? Appreciate the help.

When should one expect the customs fee from the shipper? I bought CP's from the Norse Store and they arrived a week ago. To clarify, since the purchase was less than $800 I don't get hit with import tax but I still have to pay custom fees?

Private shipping companies often add "handling fees" or "processing fees" that are independent of any customs fees. Pay them. You can proactively call to see if you have any charges pending or wait for something in the mail. Even if the amount is under $800, they are charging you for having to fill out declaration forms and whatever (if you've ever shipped internationally, the little paper you fill out is similar). Is it worth however much they're charging? Probably not, but that's how it is.

If it irks you that badly and you want to "vote with your dollars" then shop domestically and worry less. You probably won't have to wake up in the middle of the night f5'ing for a code from some international store to try and save an extra $50. If you're buying at 80% off from an international store and get hit with a fee, is that really so bad?

I'd assume you would had been charged at delivery. That's what happened with my friend.

Depends on the carrier.
