Official Customs, Duties, and International Shipping Questions and Stories Thread - Page 49

Bought a dress and top for my wife last week from the UK Ted Baker store that came out to a combined $280, it got caught in customs as I forgot about the $200 limit and customs wanted $80...so cancelled the order and started two new orders buying the dress and top separately so they would get past customs. Its nice that i won't have to do that workaround again now that the limit is $800

Whats interesting is that the same top and dress from the US Ted Baker store is $360 while buying it and getting it delivered from the UK store is $280...looks like Ted Baker and other stores with this law change will have to change their pricing in the US or was that the point of the law change?

I hope and wish that this gets reciprocated

What's the limit on import fees for canada?

US just made a new law that passed march 10th thats now $800, before it was $200 limit.

Shouldn't the sites that ship duty paid, far-fetch, matches, LN-CC not include the duties anymore if the threshold has changed?

I asked LN-CC and they didnt understand what I was saying, or didnt care to respond.

I tried asking them about duties charged for items under $200 and even that didn't seem to connect...matches already adjusted(though I'm not sure if the prices really changed), not sure about the rest

why would the prices change?

also, id give the shops at least a month to implement the changes... but then again, unless they include duties in the total price, it should be fine since its the carriers that charge you the customs fees

lol that's completely absurd. jesus.

if i ordered something worth $300-800 CDN from europe, how much will i be charged in import fees? yea one of those websites that does not cover it. I believe it's END.

Are you new to Canada? It's been like that forever. If you want to know how much you should be charged, check with CBSA because it depends on what you order.

Without knowing what you bought, hard to say exactly, but roughly 28-33% (typically 18% duty + 5-15% GST/HST/QST depending on province plus handling fee $10-15 plus GST/HST/QST on handling fee) of the value in CAD according to Canada post exchange rate.

Use a customs calculator that allows you to entire what type of goods you bought (I. E., one that will look up the tarrif code and apply the correct amount. Most have been within a few dollars of what I actually paid.

It's not just Canada - most countries are similar, the US is an exception. In the UK the limit is £15 for purchases made outside the EU.

I placed an order with End on March 15 and received it here in the US today (March 17) from FedEx.  Value was marked ~$425.  I don't see anything about duties on the box.  How does FedEx handle the import taxes?  If I did get charged duties, does a bill come later?
