I know about the capital one credit card but I was just wondering whether there were ways around it. If I attached my credit card to paypal would that suffice or is a new credit card the only option.

paypal gives you a shit conversion rate as far as I know, usually closer to a 4% fee I think

did you get hit with customs in the end

I have not yet placed an order. I may end up passing.

I haven't ordered from End in a while (always got charged if my orders were over $200 USD, no charge if under $200 in the past) and I've never ordered from Oki-Ni.

Is one better than the other?

Oki-Ni = UPS

End = FedEx

I'm ordering CP's at about $360.

thanks

You'll get hit with either with the only difference being

Ups = shipment held until duty paid
Fedex = duties letter mailed to your house shortly after delivery

Thanks, yeah I should have specified that I am anticipating customs but was more concerned with other stuff - like them holding things until payment - so thanks for that tip.

last time i got something from them it was UPS. duties 99.9% guaranteed

In my experience, if you refuse to pay UPS they will eventually (ie after a couple days) just leave the package and send an invoice like FedEx does.

Apparently Obama passed a bill raising the duty-free limit to $800 USD. Goes into effect March 10.

Sec. 901: De Minimis Value

Currently, 19 U.S.C. § 1321(a)(2)(C) allows importers to import up to $200 of merchandise informally (i.e., exempt from certain entry documentation requirements) and duty-free. Section 901 amends 19 U.S.C. § 1321(a)(2)(C) to raise the de minimis threshold from $200 to $800. Section 901 specifies that this amendment shall apply to merchandise imported or withdrawn from the warehouse for consumption on or after the 15th day after the date of enactment of the Act.

Pretty awesome if we're reading this correctly
