Official Customs, Duties, and International Shipping Questions and Stories Thread - Page 23

Because I figured it was the same item and that the charge was reflective of the value of the item coming in. If I was charged twice, then that would equate to double in value of the product? I'm also learning for the first time about customs... so I that's why I came here to ask for experienced advice.

Have any non-US customers ever ordered something from Steven Alan? What was your experience with customs?

Like the Ebay Global shipping program, they have their intl parcels first shipped to some airport in Kentucky.....then shipped out again to your address.

wtf the kentucky airport is a real thing? I just canceled a sale to a German buyer because he had this sketchy unconfirmed address on paypal and when I asked him about it he told me ship to his real address in Germany despite having paid domestic shipping.

Ebay global ship is run by Pitney Bowes.
That Kentucky airport is CVG which is the Cincinnati airport.

A lot of DHL stuff goes through there.

It could have been a shopusa / proxy address, they are quite common.

Also, what's everyone's experience with USPS intl fist class mail? Canadians?

I bought something from the US and chose that option only to find out later that the tracking is non-existant/unreliable, shipping takes forever, etc.

Anybody experienced this one?

Ordered from End. to the US. Before the package left the UK I got an email from Fed Ex asking details about the wallet so they could "pre release" it to customs. I replied and they said OK. The next day it arrived at Memphis, TN and was marked as clearing customs, today it arrived in my local city in the early morning and was stuck at "clearance in process". I called them to try and speed things up and see if there was more info they needed and they told me it "went too far and has to go back to Memphis tomorrow in order to clear customs again". WTF does that mean? Like the guys supervisor didn't like my answer and wants to check it all again?

I've never paid duties before, but since this was a bigger order (like $850 total) I was expecting duties. I'm OK with that (I think, as long as it's <150), but why does Fed Ex constantly fuck this stuff up?

Does this apply to where the brand is located or where the clothes are manufactured? A lot of American brands have their goods made overseas for cheap labor like Nike. Thanks.

What part of "country of manufacture" is unclear to you?
I thought some people here didn't have to pay customs for some US brands even though their country of manufacture wasn't here.
Well you shouldn't have to pay for stuff made in Canada or Mexico either (see NAFTA).

What counts is where something is made. Brand doesn't really matter.
Maybe that was why. Thanks.

Went through the thread and didn't see any replies re: Oki-Ni. Will I get hit if my order > $200?

Seems like END is well known here, but just a recent experience. Ordered a $400 item, got hit with a $85 fee. Sucks.

It's been over a year since I've ordered from TBS, but don't remember ever getting hit with customs, regardless of price. Is this still the case?

Fromjapan offers EMS and Airmail to ship orders. Anyone know which one has a better chance at not being hit by customs?
