When did you get the bill? I just got a package thru FedEx from End and no custom fee attached or mentioned when I signed for it.

You guys are weak. Lame.

I just got hit with a UPS bill for $1610.34. Apparently, I received 22 cardigans, 17 scarves, and 77 other knits, from S.N.S. Herning. That would be enough for me to wear a different piece for pretty much every day of the winter. I'm guessing that sometimes, the knit would be too small, and sometimes, much too large, and sometimes, just right.

Just got off the phone with UPS. Assured them that I would not pay. They told me that they'd call back.

I've bought from end twice, both purchases under $200 got hit with the same ~$40 duty both times

Any Britons here?

I just moved to the UK and I want to do some online shopping, but I don't know how strict the Customs is in this country.

I read somewhere that the customs limit for importing goods from outside EU is £15.

Do you ever get hit by the customs in the UK?

I ordered a Barbour jacket from End Clothing's "U.S. website", thinking that they would ship from the U.S, just like if you order from Mr. Porter's U.S. website. Didn't work out that way. Got hit with $90 custom's fee. Not sure how they justify representing their site as a "U.S. website" when they still ship from England.

In May I received a pair of Tricker's from Shoe Healer via DHL. A few weeks later I received a bill from DHL. Rather than the expected 9%, it was a bill for $183. According to the bill my boots were coded as women's textile slipper at something like 38%. Fuck that. I wrote a dispute letter with pictures, etc and sent it off to DHL. After some phone tag and email tag, finally got it resolved (I hope) and they sent me a new bill for $48. Person at DHL was actually fairly pleasant and helpful.

I got another pair from Shoe Healer a month or so ago. I made sure to ask that he ship via Parcel Force/Royal Mail.
Somewhat related, I got a marketing email from Pediwear today. They mention you can specify your carrier preference when you order (UPS, DHL, Parcel Force).

Has anyone in the US been hit with fees ordering from Tres Bien recently?

How has the gov't shutdown affected US customs processing of packages? I had a package shipped from Japan via EMS last Friday. It arrived at the ISC in Chicago on the following day and the tracking hasn't updated since. Here is the last update:

Inbound Into Customs

Processed Through Sort Facility

ISC CHICAGO IL (USPS)

Any ideas? My previous packages from Japan have all cleared within the same day, so I am a bit worried.

Anybody happen to know if a package from Hong Kong to Canada will get hit with any fees?

I think the government problems are affecting delivery through customs.   I've had a package sitting in San Francisco for over a week sent from the UK...grr.

Any suggestions for this dilemma?

I had fromjapan mark a bunch of items down in value and remove the tags. Portuguese customs stopped the package and is asking for a commercial invoice. Not sure what to do now. It's a huge package with like 13 items and the value was marked ridiculously low (like $200-300).

Give them the FJ receipt from the shipping history page and prepare to pay the full cost of duties + possible fines.

Any less expensive suggestions?
