This. I own corduroy trousers in tan, chestnut brown, dark brown, olive green, gray (wool, not cotton), and winter-white (with alternating wide and narrow wales; very cool). I wear them all the time in winter, with any heavily textured jacket, except corduroy, such as tweed. More casual shirts work well, too, whether or not I choose to wear a jacket. The dressiest shirt I'll wear with corduroy is an OCBD.

To me it looks best with patch pockets and casual details.
There are some very nice corduroy fabrics from various mills out now made from wool, wool/cotton blend, cotton and cotton/cashmere blend.
I'm actually thinking about getting a jacket made in a brown/tan.
This. I own a cheap-ass Lauren RL brown corduroy jacket that I wear with jeans, chinos, flannel or moleskin trousers, anything with texture except more corduroy. I also have a custom green/navy/taupe
plaid corduroy jacket with patch pockets that I wear occasionally. I'm looking to upgrade the brown corduroy jacket to something that fits a bit better, but don't know if I can justify spending more money on corduroy, since it tends to go bald and probably has a shorter lifespan than woolen fabrics. Oh, and I also have a burgundy corduroy jacket that I struggle to find occasions to wear. It really is on the purple end of burgundy.

But I
am a college professor, so corduroy works for me!
