Logistics of wearing a suit every day

I'm going to be wearing a suit about 6 days a week for work and was wondering how one goes about that. My original intention was to have 6 suits and dry clean them all once a week until I realized that dry cleaning suits more than once or twice a year is a big no-no. So with that, what in the hell are you supposed to do?

A) How many suits should I own to pull this off?

B) How does one keep a suit clean, wrinkle-free, and smell-free if it can't be laundered more than once or twice a year?

I have 11 suits, 9 white shirts, 4 sport coats, 9 pairs of odd trousers, and 3 pairs of jeans. The past 2-3 years I have either worn a suit or a sport coat 6 days a week for the most part.

I always take my jacket off when I get home and hang it on my coat rack so it can air out. This can also have a noticeable difference on the jackets wrinkles. I iron the trousers to keep them wrinkle free and a sharp crease.

Occasionally I'll let it sit in the bathroom during a hot shower with a lot of steam if I'm worried about smell, but that is rare.

Alright, I'll be frank...how does something like suit trousers which are always near your asshole get away with not getting washed after each use?

unless you go commando your underwear provide enough of a barrier to protect your trousers from all but the most noxious of emanations.

It's pretty much why we developed drawers anyway.

Suits date from a time when most well-dressed men could store all of their clothes in a closet three feet wide. And no homes had laundry machines.

A good-quality suit wears more like outerwear than underwear.

Brush it after each use. Google "kent clothes brush."

Change your boxers every day. Also, wash your ass if it gets nasty. :teach:

3 suits with spare trousers (basically wearing each pair of trousers once weekly),
3 pair of shoes
At least 6 shirts

If you shower AFTER you drop the kids off at the pool, stink butt should not be a problem. Remember: ****, shave, shower and shine -- in that order.

I have ten year old suits which I have never dry cleaned the jackets. The trousers get cleaned once or twice a season at most. I am pretty careful not to spill food or drink on them. If I do spill something, it will most likely be on the trousers which will immediately get dry cleaned. As others have said, hang your jacket and trousers after a day's wear and use a suit brush. Dry clean after seasonal changes. Keeping suits in rotation also gives them a rest and helps even out wear. Don't wear the same suit six days in a row. If I wore a every day, I would want five suits for each season (fall/spring being the same fabric weight).

That's the beauty of wool...if you air it out most odors will go away. My understanding is that dry cleaning only attacks oil-based stains anyway, and won't remove ass funk or other body odor. I hand-wash my odd trousers in cold water and woolite, then press with a steam iron and pressing cloth(to keep them from getting shiny)...Suit pants and jackets get drycleaned together, so if there is any fading, they will fade together.

wool repels smells better than any other fabric. Make sure your pants aren't too tight and wash your ass. Should be fine with dry cleaning a few times a year.

A runny fart would breach the barrier of your underwear, but outside that you should be fine provided you wipe your ass well enough or clean / polish with a washcloth.

Also a well fitted suit should not have a tendency to crease up into your crack unless you go commando and pants too tight....

As other have said:

-Brush it after every wear
-Sponge clean minor spill marks
-Always store the jacket on a wide flared hanger
-Always hang the pants neatly on the crease mark
-Get it professionally steam pressed at the tailor every once and a while
-Get a press cloth if you intend to press it yourself with an iron
