favorite plain white t-shirt?

Do you mean undershirts or white tshirts to wear as shirts by themselves (like with jeans)?

If you mean the latter, I like Gap's classic white or off-white cotton tea in the "athletic fit." It's relatively inexpensive, easy to clean, and has a nice fit and feel to the cotton. I used always to buy egyptian cotton tees from Helmut Lang, but I found the Gap ones to be a decent substitute. No, they're not quite as nice as the Lang used to be, but for $12 compared to $125, they're pretty damn close. Now, having worn both off and on for the past several years and had the Lang's wear out from wear/washing just as fast the Gap ones, I feel stupid for having spent the extra on the Lang.

At the end of the day, there is very little difference between a $15 and a $150 cotton tee without any special treatments. Unfortunately, I had to learn this the long and expensive way, but oh well...

I like the thin t-shirt material that's normally used in 'vintage shirts', it'd be nice to find some of those in plain white. They're more comfortable in the so cal heat in summer.

In that case, definitely try the gap tees. I'm usually NOT a gap fan at all, but I was pretty pleased with them overall when I bought a bunch of them two or three years ago.

I'm assuming they're pre-shrunk, because I haven't had any noticeable shrinkage with mine. That being said, I wouldn't stick them in the dryer on high for 90 minutes or anything, but just following the directions on the laundry tag hasn't shrunk them much on me.

Yeah I love gap athletic fit tees. The cotton is really soft, the fit is nice, and its got nice thick feel to it; compared to American Apparel tee's, for instance.

Stafford white T's can be nice. They are nice and thick. However on some shirts the neckhole will pucker the cloth and that doesnt look good.

I can tell AAs have good potential in terms of cut, but damn on 2 out of the 3 I have, the workmanship is so shoddy I cannot wear it as anything but an undershirt. They are really terribly made.

I wear jockeys as outerwear all the time. They have the right weight, they are somewhat short, which I like. But they kind of have a undershirt look about them.

Another favorite is Target mossimo solid colors. They are definitely "aa" cut, aka slim and tight around the biceps. I have a black one as well, great quality.

I don't have any gap right now but I do remember them being good from years back. But they cost $10-15 each, right? They should be good.

I buy white tees from Bubbles in Hampsterdam, 1 for $3, 2 for $5.

H&M plain white tshirts. About 9.99 on sale. I buy half a dozen at a time. They've fitted well, without much shrinkage in the washer.

Uniqlo pima cotton white t-shirts, they feel real nice.

Out of curiosity, what do they run in the USA? I'm always amazed at the prices and the sort of kitschy character Uniqlo has in the US; in Japan, it's an almost ubiquitous presence and not something terribly desirable. There, I'd say the plain tees would be about 1000 yen ($9 or so)... but likewise there you can get the jeans for less than $30 and here they are often twice that.
