Trailers hit the web today, so I think it's time to get an official thread going. I was an unapologetic huge fan of J.J. Abrams reboot of the universe so it goes without saying that i'm excited to see the sequel finally come about. :slayer:

The marketing around this one has been interesting as they still have not announced who Cumberbatch will be playing other then that he is a villain known from the old series. Khan? I suspected as much at first, but no longer. Nothing here feels "Khan" to me and I wonder if we are going to be in for a real surprise once it's revealed.

Here's the official media released by the studio.

International trailer:

Teaser poster:

And finally, the official synopsis:

“In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Star Trek Into Darkness, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller, arrives on May 17th, 2013.”

Big e-debate right now is whether the villain is Khan or Gary Mitchell.

Think we're going to see a bit of both.

Doubt they're killing off Spock w/ the TWoK hand-on-glass scene. Abrams is just messing w/ people's heads.

Doubt it's Gary Mitchell because his character already made an appearance in the comic series and they didn't leave much of an opening for his return. I like the theory that it's Garth of Izar being floated around and he certainly fits the description given so far as the man was a Starfleet officer.

I also think it could be one of Khan's crewmen from Spaceseed, but not Khan himself. Perhaps in the new timeline Khan doesn't get revived and this becomes what the villain's vengeance centers around. Would be an interesting way to tie it into Khan nostalgia without having to takle that mountain fully.

Agreed on the scene at the end. Abrams is likely just ******* with fans.

It's surprised me that it's taken this long to get the film out. While how well the reboot did in terms of box off and critical reception, I had assumed they would have put the sequel on fast track. Not that them taking their time is a bad thing, just might have done them well to continue the momentum they had going.

Forgot to add earlier that they will be playing 9 minuties of footage before The Hobbit in IMAX showings. Much like they did with The Dark Knight Rises, this will be the opening footage to the film and exclusive to these showings at IMAX. Don't expect to be able to catch it again until the film hits.

Didn't they destroy the entire fleet in the last movie? Are spaceships that easy to build?

Vulcan was eaten away. Don't think Starfleet itself took massive losses though. Would have to rewatch.

I mean, it's been FOUR FREAKING YEARS.

Starfleet did take some major losses, but I don't believe they indicated it was decimated. Even if it was we have no indication how many years have passed in "movie time," how long it would take to get a sizable fleet running again or even if it's fully up to strength yet based on this trailer.

In other words, just enjoy teaser and dont sweat the unimportant details.

I meant it's been more or less four years since I'd watched the movie. But I do agree with you about the way some people online are stressing out.

I hope they find a way -- convoluted or not -- to show Alice Eve in her underwear.
