Fall and Winter coat options

Hello All,

I've been eyeing this http://www.ctshirts.com/Charcoal-covert-coat?q=usddefault||OC007DGY|||||||||||| covert coat from Charles Tyrwhitt as a fall/spring coat to wear over my suit/sport coat, and now that I can get it on sale I wonder if this is appropriate for wearing in the city. I recall that the covert coat was a hunting and riding jacket typically associated with the country. Since I live in NYC, what type of impression would this give? (I read somewhere of someone comparing this type of coat to what a doorman wears)
What alternatives could I find for the same price point?

My other question was whether I should get this http://www.ctshirts.com/men's-outerwear/men's-coats/Charcoal-wool-cashmere-overcoat?q=usddefault||OC036CHA||||||||||||| coat for winter or keep my current coat. It's a Joseph Abboud 90% Wool/10% Cash Charcoal, in the same length except no breast pockt, slanted side pockets, and a subtle black diagonal pattern. I like the coat but the lining is falling apart. My tailor can replace it but I wonder if it's worth it, seeing that it may not be formal enough to wear with a suit.

I'm about 5'8" 180lbs, wide athletic build with short lower body to torso ratio

The coat only comes in fawn, navy, and charcoal. The charcoal isn't as dark as imagined, I would almost call it medium grey. The navy however is VERY nice. For my winter skin town it would likely be charcoal or navy, though at this point I'd prefer navy. Are you suggesting that the navy would bring out more of that "doorman" look?
