Anyone seen the show on Showtime? It's always gratifying to hear that reedy voice say, "From WBEZ in Chicago, it's This American Life, I'm Ira Glass."

Was it good? My gf thought it was hi-larious that they seem to be marketing Ira as something of a hottie.

really looking forward to seeing this. if it's anything like the radio version, it'll be a hit.

probably missed the first episode though with the restaurant where the waitresses shout at the patrons.

What is This American Life?

Like a spoken Joan Didion story?

My roommate just got Netflix and it's available as an instant download. I've been watching it for the last couple hours.
It's really, really good.

Vignettes of life in America. I saw one episode where a man had his beloved cow cloned, only to find out the new cow put him in the hospital multiple times from spazzing out. Nothing like the old cow. Man was perplexed.

This American Life is not bad but Ira Glass has this grating nasal drawl which does not bode well for someone who has a radio show. Even for NPR his show is a very leftist social slant. A good example of how you will feel about this show is an episode where he takes a Chicago classifieds and interviews people with ads. Ira talked with a 50-something year old woman who has bounced between blue collar gigs and staying at home in efforts to accommodate raising her child. He spends a good 30+ minutes talking with a guy whose poodle was stolen from his front yard, encouraging the man to call the dog's name into the recorder...

The typical show will be something along the lines of "20-something-year-old liberal shares how their parent/uncle/grandfather learns to become progressive"..."Southern farmer converts his farm to all organic crops / livestock"..."noble government employee faces retribution and obstacles for doing the right thing"

Hey...he's sandwiched between Car Talk and Prairie Home Companion

It's awesome but dammit he needs to pick less depressing stories. The one about the man who was brain damaged after getting beat up in a fight, for example. He now lives alone in a fantasy world of photographing a giant dollhouse town of WWII soldier dolls where he's the main Allied character trying to save the people from a horrible Nazi occupation. He makes the city right outside of his trailer.

Also lol at someone named DBoon complaining of a leftist slant.

each episode of the show is available via podcast, well worth the investment of money or time... depending on how you personally choose to acquire media

Who's the Nazi hottie? Looks like a Nazi version of Kristin Chenoweth.
