Advice: What to tell my girlfriend

It's tux season again, and my girlfriend has very strong opinions about my suit. She prefers spread collar to wing, straight tie to bow, and thinks my patent oxfords look feminine. Predictably, she also hates the cummerbund and isn't crazy about peaked lapels. She (rightly) says that most men at black tie functions dress the way that she recommends. How to I explain to her in a way that she'll understand?

She actually said that I will embarrass her if I wear the outfit that I have.

Show her the Rhianna police report filed against Chris Brown. Ask her if she still wants to give her opinion.

Is she worth changing your clothes to avoid "embarrassing" her?

Tell her you're gay.

She obviously has no taste in clothing. Every fashionista I know love it when men get tuxed up. I would save the wing collar for white tie, though.

Show her pics of famous people in tuxes.

What will she say if you wear a point or semi-spread collar instead of wing (which is correct) and well-shined, non-patent plain toe bals with silk laces?

You could also swap the cummerbund for a vest. And maybe shawl lapels?

If she's that controlling and insecure about your attire, I can't imagine what she's like when it comes to things that actually matter...

Tell her the she obviously knows nothing at all, ever, about menswear and should stick to cooking and cleaning.

(the above was in jest.)

SRSLY, though, I'd swap the shoes, go with braces, and call it done. It sounds like she's not really a keeper, though, if she's THAT opinionated and willing to shame you into changing so many details at her whim.

Listen to her and lose the powder blue tux.

Tell her that you are a man who has his own justifiable opinion, and are not a sheep that follows the herd.

Tell her only conceivable way you'd not wear your outfit is if you dress like this:

I will just ignore her, better get another lady to come with you to show your attitude.
