Guys,
Been reading and watching from the bleachers for quite awhile now and basically I am about to get my feet wet in a big way. To me at least
.
So, here is my questions and my circumstances..
I am starting from square one and I am on a budget.. I wear bootcut jeans and cowboy boots with just about everything. Albeit they are diesel bootcut and handmade lucchese boots. I make a good living and have some money to spend but I am not gonna get carried away. I am big on quality and price. With that being said, my first purchase was two pair of Magnanni shoes one being a wingtip and the other a monk type shoe and a pair of straight fitting dark denim jeans. I considered this a must have and figured I could save money elsewhere. Now, I am looking at a list of things to buy and I am trying get down to the nitty gritty.
I work in an environment that does not require full suits.. In fact, not one person wears one soo I don't necessarily have a day to day need for one but me being me I would like to have some for you know occassions and I am not scared to look my best. Basically, the wardrobe I am building is based around the lifestyle of a person who doesn't "have to" dress up but is not afraid to stand out with particular items.
With that being said, I gave up many years ago looking for a sport coat to fit me. I thought that my body shape just wouldn't work. I am 5'8" about 170. Very athletic build with a long torso, shorter legs and about a 34" measured waist. Until just the other day and after countless hours of skimming this site, I went to my local nordstrom and tried on some sport coats. To my avail, I tried on some particular european brands that were full canvas and holy shit they looked sexy. I have been missing out and then I looked at the price tag and dropped my head and walked out.
So, I continued searching and found Kent Wang. I feel like his stuff is what I am looking for. I could talk for days here but I think his price point for what I am getting is whats up. I am actually going to meet him in the next week or so and or wait for him to get to Houston to meet me and here is my dillemma.
Where to start???!!! He has all these nice fabrics and I want them all. Should I buy a full suit first or two sport coats?? Should I stick to some navys with texture or the more expensive twills... Keep in mind I am going to be building my wardrobe around these sport coats. In a perfect world, I would want a navy, charcoal, navy pinstripe and grey suit. I cannot afford that in one she-bang. What would you guys do?? I think I am gonna go with two sport coats but will I be able to match up other trousers with these?? Which colors? What type of fabric will be the most flexible?? Should I steer clear of the lighter navys and stay with the darks??
Any suggestions will be greatful and just as additonal info below is the rest of my list: Feel free to comment on suggested brands etc.. As you can see, besides my sport coat issues - I have a whole new world opening up to me in pants because I have always worn boots.
Cordory pant - blue and tan
variety of chinos
Basic slacks as well as some with flair- i like john varvatos styling and topman in some of there pants but haven't tried them on yet
leather jacket
variety of online tailored shirts
Thanks guys,
Kyle S.
