Personally though I run Falken Azenis, but I dont think everyone needs a R compound tire for their daily driver (or in my case my daily driver/weekend racer)

Azenis are hardly an R-compound tire, they are just a performance Summer-only tire. I run 615's, and they are good for autox'ing, but not really much else related to racing. They get greasy pretty quickly on the track if you push them, and they suck in the rain. I'm about to rip through another set next weekend at an event, and I'll be looking to pick up some Bridgestone RE01-R's for replacement. A bit more expensive, but much better at the track.

strange, I heard they were the only Street Mod legal "R" tires, but then again my local Auto X club is weird and uses a modified SCCA rule book. They do suck in the rain, and in snow, well shit you may as well be driving with ice skates on. the RE01-Rs are nice tires but for a recreational racer on a college budget I need to cut corners in my racing (in more ways than one). What do you drive on the track and what class?

Not hardly. The Bridgestone RE01-R's, Pirelli PZero's, and Advan Neova AD-07's are all better performing and more aggresive than the Azenis RT-615's, and the Azenis RT-215/115's are more entry level, but still good. However, none of these are R compound tires. Race compound tires are much different.

Also, these tires in the snow should be illegal they are so dangerous. Anything below about 40 degrees and these things are hard as rocks (you do store them indoors in the cooler months, right? The soft compound can be permanently damaged from cold weather.

And I run a Subaru STi in a local street tire Street Mod class, but my autox days are becoming fewer and fewer. I do more track days.

What ever you do, for the love of god do not get Continentals! They are horrible.

The MXV4+ are fine. They are high quality, last forever, aren't so great in the rain, and get pretty loud when nearing the end of their life. I got 65K out of my last set, and I drive like a nut.

I'm currently on Bridgestone G0009 (or G009, can't remember), which are much quieter, and corner and grip better, especially in the rain. They look to be lasting almost as long as the Michelins. These bridgestones are much cheaper than the Michelins too. I think Costco can get them as well, as they carry Bridgestone.

Going to Costco right now, I'll look for them. I got generic ones last time and my tires are badly worn. Anything will be an improvement.

Costco only carries Michelin and BF Goodrich now. So, I went with my original plan and I notice an enormous difference. wow. Surprisingly, they don't carry tires for Scion xB that my g/f drives so I think I'll order some Yokohamas off tirerack and then have somewhere install them for me.

Um. Tires are not car specific. I'm sure they have a tire to fit the car, but you probably just had an inept sales person.

Also, if you order from tirerack.com, they will ship directly to an "approved" installer so you don't have to haul them around. I've used this service a couple times.

*DROOL* STi, I have been lusting over an STi since the Version V days. I keep my tires in a heated garage, right next to the bike. My autoX days are being limited simply because I cant afford to break my car anymore, dont have the time to fix it, that and well I would like to stretch the life out of it a little longer till I can either A.) buy a Vitz, B.) Buy a Toyota Starlet GT Turbo (94-95 pref years), or C. Buy some RWD or AWD and/or hatch ie S13, S14, 323GTX, STi

Yeah, they had one kind listed that would fit but it had to be special ordered and it was no longer in stock. So I ordered off tirerack and am having it drop shipped to an installer.

Heh. I like my car (2nd subaru, had an 03 WRX), but I'm growing tired of it. I love it, but I hate it at the same time. I really enjoy driving our other car (07 S4 Avant), and it makes me really dislike the rickety ol' econobox. Then again, this is the tail end of a long winter, so after the racing season starts up (next weekend), my tune should change.

I've got my eye on some other cars. I drove the 335, Cayman S, and looked at some other things, but right now I can't find anything worthy of moving on to. The new M3 might be right, but that still remains to be seen. I really appreciate the simplicity and raw, mechanical nature of my car, and going to something like the 335 is just out of the question, so I'm hoping to find something that is just right. My backup plan is the Exige S, but I think that is taking raw to the extreme.

Well, I'm late to the party, but if anyone ever hits the archives I'll submit that Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires are so darn grippy it's like they're sucking on the road. And they even look beautiful.... Regards, Huntsman

Breath-taking car. I really love the styling on those, the power to weight ratio is quite good too (and by quite good I mean Fucking Fantastic). I checked out a few in Bellvue WA and they are smaller than they look in pictures

Agreed. I am seriously considering one at the end of this year, and hoping too many people don't get turned on to them. Sat in a few in Manhattan Motorcars -- just wish ingress and egress was a little less work. My, I love the darn car. Hunting Ridge Motors has an amazing one in Magnetic Blue that takes my breath away. GO for it Brian!
