Is this an appropriate tie?

So after reading these forums for a while I decided to upgrade my ties. My current budget allowed me to opt for Brooks Brothers, but a buddy of mine from work told me one of the patterns/colors is juvenile. It's navy, purple, white, and red, and I figured I could wear it with a charcoal grey or navy suit. I work at an investment firm. What are your thoughts?

eh it's fairly generic. Not terrible or anything but it says 'well I had to wear a tie and this seemed like an ok choice so I got it and then went to go do something more important'.

question... do you trust your buddies sense of style?

I do. He has worked in the industry for 35 years and I think his style is good in terms of traditional/conservative. I'm looking to blend that type of style with something a little newer since I'm 30 years younger than he is, but it's a work in progress. I guess I'll just give the tie to my girlfriend's brother or something, heh.

juvenile? It's playing it pretty safe, I might say it looks boring, but not juvenile.

juvenile.

Wow. Even with the close up it's pretty bland. How many people are going to be looking that close? From a normal viewing distance people will be yawning.

That's exactly what one would expect from an investment banking employee.

OK - I may be setting myself up right now, but I'm not sure if this was a jab or if different types of corporate cultures dictate different types of ties. Does it? (Even if it was a jab, I think it's a legitimate question.)

I think the tie looks alright, but the mix is a bit strange. I will prefer a fresher tie.

It does look like an old School Tie, but I think given closer look's/thinking about it - it has more to offer than may-be possibly first thought. It look's a very nice Tie I think.
