Most of the models were way too flash for me. That too may add to the silence here -- that type of styling doesn't get a lot of traction on SF, or hasn't in the past.

Truth be told, it was one of the better trunk shows I've attended, if only because it was something different.

SF has the cheapest motherfuckers I've ever encountered.

I like to think I take it to a whole new level. I even buy Lavoris toothpaste at Big Lots.

Some of them are flashy indeed but that is also the case for Santoni, Lattanzi, Berluti. Bontoni has very nice classical shoes too. They are pricy, that is correct but what is a good price for the Bontoni hand welted goodyear shoes? If I compare the prices of Lattanzi, Lobb and Santoni limited, some Mantelassi, EG and G&G, Saint Crispin with Bontoni than you can place Bontoni in this list. The construction and leather used by Bontoni looks very high in quality and also the working hours needed for making such a shoe is equal to the other high end shoes. Almost everything is done by hand. Cutting, lasting, sewing, stitching, making the brogues, medaillons, coloring and patina... Like I said before the only visible difference is the open stitching from the sole, but this can not be the biggist problem.

Re: quality of leather between these makes . . .

I was under the impression that there was a pretty limited universe of companies supplying the better RTW manufacturers. In other words, is JL-Paris buying box calf or suede that is really all that different from EG?

Even if they buy the same high quality grade a company might only do one pair by skin while another would use as much as it can. Now I'm not a JLP specialist but I do believe they only make one pair/skin.

Meaning that they would (or could) be even more selective about what parts of that particular skin they used, rather than needing to maximize it? Interesting.

Hello,

I want to insert my brands (Benson's and Calzoleria Silvestro) because I think our shoes are on the same level of quality with those brands (Lattanzi, Bontoni, Lobb Kiton, Berluti).
For 2 years, I made shoes for Bontoni so now I know all secret to produce a wonderful pair of shoes.
This is my website: www.calzoleriasilvestro.com

Nice post and thanks for sharing..
Kiton off the rack is $3200 at NM Chevy Chase.A little pricey for OTR IMO.,but maybe
not so bad considering 10 minutes after I saw that the ladies dept. had some Rene Coavilla
(ladies brand) for 4 grand....a sandal at that..Great collection you have none the less.
