I've noticed there isn't much talk or review of these on the internet (that I can find) so I figured I would try to do a service here. Some time ago someone posted a less than positive review about them here (http://www.styleforum.net/t/78649/dr-martens-yay-nay/270) but I didn't believe that spoke for my personal experience with the boots. Frankly I don't think that guy gave them a proper chance.
These take, of course, a while to break in. I wear an 8 in chuck taylors, and got a UK 6 in these, if that helps anyone with sizing. They certainly are more narrow than the 1460s but my fat foot stretched them out in no time. I've held them up against the 10 eyes and they are about the same height. I got them for $200 last december at the SF store (they are, of course, made in England) and have worn them daily since.
I didn't do squats, hit them with a hammer, work them with my hands or any product; I just put them on and wore them. A lot. Everywhere. The polish is a rub off which at first comes off in a few tiny places and looks funny initially (like in the link above). After a brief period, as the boot developed its natural creases, the ruboff took a very natural polished look, fading in and out of polish in all the appropriate places. I must say after wearing these for nearly a year they have broken in wonderfully, and I think they look quite great. I'm happy to answer any questions about the fit, break in, quality, or whatever but I figure a picture is worth a considerable many words so:
