When you dont ahve a blazer to wear to a wedding

My friends wedding is this Saturday and i dont have any blazers other then the military one that is a no go. I have a pair of some Express grey slacks and i was wondering what i can wear with it since i dont have a suit blazer. I was thinking about maybe a black long sleeve button down or my new red button down that i havent wore yet. Still trying to decided because i didnt want to drop $200+ on a blazer just for this occasion. What is a good idea i can get away with? BTW i have a black gucci belt with the gold GG buckle. THe only nice belt i have to wear lol.

Are you saying that if you buy a blazer or suit now, you're only going to wear it this once? You plan to never go to another wedding, or a funeral, or even a job interview the rest of your entire life? For fucks sake go out tomorrow and buy some MEN's clothes, for all the times when you have to dress like a MAN and not like a BOY.

Edit: And what the hell do you plan to wear to your OWN wedding?

whatever you choose to wear, please burn that gucci belt.

+1 (minus the harshness...though I'm sure it's just tough love).

The fact that you don't need to often wear suits is not a good reason not to own a good suit. For you, suit wearing is a low probability high yield event. Though you won't have to wear them often, the times that you do will be important. Buy a decent suit. No Express/Zara/H&M type stuff.

Dressing as you described would be somewhat disrespectful for a traditional wedding (or really anything but the most casual affair...and even then it doesn't seem like it would look good aesthetically). Here are my suggestions, the best to the bare minimum

a) Buy a suit. Charcoal (black is less versatile)

b) Buy a nice blazer (navy)

c) Buy a nice cardigan

d) Don't wear the black or the red shirt. White or blue.

And for all the above, lose the belt. It sounds very tacky

A what?

No. Bad.

or my new red button down that i havent wore yet.

Also bad. Go buy a white shirt.

Blazers are great. Get one. I would actually advocate a suit, but... baby steps.

That's not a nice belt. That's an expensive belt.

Hmmm...first thing first. I have only one word to say regarding the black shirt: Waiter! Invest in a nice navy blazer as it's the most versatile piece of clothing you will ever own. Other than that listen to Claghorn's advice and start building a respectable wardrobe.

And about the Gucci belt...please don't be THAT guy with the tacky belt. Get rid!!

Agree with everyone above..........you shoud be able to get a suit in time..............HOWEVER, if $$ is an issue, buy a nice white shirt....and a decent slim leather reversible black/brown belt. You can also get a V neck sweater and round out the look. It's not traditional gear, but you can get thos done for <$100. It doesn't help that you waited until a day before to get on your game.....

People on this forum have been known to find quality suits and blazers
at very reasonable prices at thrift stores. If there's one or two near
you, it might be worth it to check them out.

If you had more time, or for future consideration, there's always ebay.

A tight budget doesn't have to deter you from dressing appropriately.

Hit a thrift store and see if you can find something good. Do you live in a big city?

Get a white button up shirt and look for a coat/suit.

If that isn't an option and cost is an issue hit up American Apparel and get a white Oxford Cloth Button Down shirt and maybe a Cardigan or V-neck sweater like people already said.

Obviously the best choice is to invest in a coat or suit but I think if you can look decent most people won't notice like people on these boards will.

What do you mean by "the military one", and why is it a no go?

There are things that only an SFer would pick up on. Being the only person at a wedding without a jacket isn't one of them.

Agree. I suggest you either borrow or thrift a suit jacket/sport coat/blazer. Passable used ones can be had for a song.

lol...Are you the guy who got shxtted on for posting pics of that military jacket? If you're unwilling to shop for the occasion, then your options are limited. You're the only one who knows what's in your closet...no sense in asking us what you should wear.

^^^ Yes that was me. I got shitted on lol. I welcome and take in all of these comments as constructive criticism. I was just trying to get by with what i had. As for the suits i always have planned on buying them when occasions like THIS one. The wedding came by so fast so i was trying to hurry. So i went out to buy some nice black colehann laceups and 2 Vneck sweaters from Banana Republic. Now that i read all of the comment i think its time to just get my ass a suit. For a first time suit buyer... would a nice grey suit be ok? or just go with navy or black?

Read Styleforum 101 - don't get black. Navy or grey/charcoal.
