DB waistcoats with points are very rare these days. It has been more common (though I don't think it was ever the most common) in eras when waistcoats in general existed in greater variety than today. Even then, I'd suggest it would usually go with a slightly higher crossover point and more of a keystone arrangement of the buttons. I'm not really a fan of the style as it is in the pic (and this comes from someone who does own a couple of bespoke DB waistcoats).
Someone like Sator would know a hell of a lot more about historical styles than me though. I barely have a smattering of knowledge. Is it business-appropriate? Only you can judge that, based on your personal work environment. It is unusual and quite noticeably striking though, if that's any guide. Then again, most waistcoats are rare these days (though perhaps less so than they would have been in the 90s or early 00s, given a slight resurgence over the past 5-10 years).
