How to wear black

I want to start wearing all-black, but I'm clueless on what to buy, and for what seasons. I want a stylish, misterious and melancholic look that suggests a hidden and unattainable depth.

This picture of Brian Wilson from the back of the Pet Sounds album was a main inspiration:

Thanks!

Bump... also, does anybody know what jacket Brian is wearing here, and where can I find a similar piece of clothing? Thanks!

To me wearing all black shows a complete lack of style. More lazy than melancholy. Why would you want advice for something so easy to execute? Black shirt, black pants, black shoes. Done.

PS, I don't think Brian Wilson was trying to be stylish either.

You think non-black clothes leave your depths all too conspicuous and attainable?

I used to work with a guy who only wore black. I never saw him wear another color. We called him Johnny Cash. You can maybe to a few all black outfits, but if you start wearing it all the time people will think you are werd.

Black is a colour best suited for mourning or evening rompings. Then again, if you're an artist or an architect, all black is a usual sight.

Try SW&D.

Why do you want this particular look? Are you an artist? Are you a 19 year old emo kid? Are you both?

Black is great for:

-Formal stuff

-Lounges and clubs (night)

I've seen some sharp denim with black sc/black shirt combos.  Only at night, and your fits must be good.

Black neckties look very good obviously. Black stripes on a suit can look good. I have a black quilted barbour I like. Black and tan are a classic combination.

Looks good at night, but there is always the risk of it looking cheap or washed out.
