Sexuality?

I know this is a sensitive subject for many, so I don't expect anyone to post responses (besides the confidential poll). I'm just curious since fashion and 'dressing well' is usually associated strongly with gay culture. However, it seems like many members here are straight. On a side note, on other forums (read: GQ.com) it seems being gay is really looked down upon and used as an insult. I've got no problem if a person chooses to live this lifestyle and I'd never hold it against them. I'm not trying to convince anyone to change their beliefs, but I think we're in a period in time when we need to drop stereotypes and start accepting new things because thats one of the only ways we will advance (culturally, socially, etc).

I would venture to guess that most people on this site share your feelings, at least somewhat.

Yes, I think it goes along with the vastly higher maturity of the posters compared to other forums.

the fashion part yes, but i'm not sure about "dressing well." if you've ever driven down santa monica blvd. in west hollywood you know what i'm taliking about. fluorescent spandex does not make a well dressed man.

I agree generally with the sentiments expressed in this thread. However,

bothers me intellectually. Leaving aside definitional problems, I think that justifying any particular morality in the name of "advancement" of any sort is, at best, dangerous. Moral precepts should be judged solely on their own merit.

I'm kind of suprised at the results (figured there would be a few gay men), yet actually nobody on the forums struck me as being outright gay. Maybe it was because most of us stick to the classics or more 'normal' trends and know the line between fashion and eccentricism? Now for the other big question...who here is a woman that has been masquerading as a man all of this time?

I see your point and agree. I meant that we shouldn't hold predjuces for the sole purpose that a person is gay. Its understandable that someone might not agree with what they are doing, but its not something to hold against a person. I meant advancing 'socially' as not being discriminating and becoming more accepting of people (applies more to those living in areas where there are not many gay people. Shouldn't apply to anyone living in the Castro in San Francisco).

LA Guy--Thank you for your comments. You articulated what I felt but was unable to express tactfully. About women in the forum... I know this is probably a post of its own, but do any of you know of a forum like ours for women? I only know a few women as interested in fashion as myself, and would like to have a site/forum to refer them to. Any suggestions?

I tend to like guys, but I don't think the stereotype ever was all that valid. Yes, gay guys as a percentage probably do tend to dress better, but they are by no means the majority of the stylish guys you see on the street. The stereotype is generally insulting to any guy, his sexual orientation notwithstanding.

I agree with you. Shows like "queer eye", "Will and Grace" unrealistically portray all gay men as well dressed, style-forward, up-to-date on culture and entertainment (the last three aren't bad by any means) but also shows gays as [often] over-the-top, very feminine, and excessively flambouyant. While many men do fit this image, I don't think its a good thing to stereotype all gay men under this umbrella.

I think homosexuals should have just as much opportunity as heterosexuals. What really bothers me are the devoutly religious types who claim that being gay is a sin. I am sorry, but who are you to judge people?

Metrosexual isn't a sex really...Metrosexuals are heteros. Its just a way of life that doesn't involve an alternative sexuality. Actually, the more I think about it....I found the answer.... Straght men are attracted to women. Gay men are attracted to men. Metros are attracted to Gucci shirts, designer sales, and Kiehl's grooming products.
