RANT: Accidentally "Mark Forum as Read"

Thread Starter

Does anyone know how to reverse the terrible mistake I've just made? Now, I can't keep track of what I've read and what I've not (other than depending on my memory).

I tried to click BACK on my browser to return to a previous page and my computer was loading incorrectly and I accidentally clicked on a spot that coincided with the button for MARK FORUM AS READ. I can find no way to reverse it. What webpage designer puts such a button near the top of a page? Shouldn't it be in an obscure corner at the button?

Anyway, what value does this button provide to an user? It's just there and to the exclusion of any other button that would allow an user to do more meaningful things, such as REVERSE MARK FORUM AS READ, MARK FORUM AS UNREAD, SELECT THREADS, are some of the more obviously more useful ones. This is at the very minimum as serious design flaw. Of course, my internet surfing clumbsiness doesn't help either.

Thanks!

It's a useful feature for those that know how to use it. Many people, when they visit forums such as these, do so perhaps once a day at the end of their work day. They click the "new posts" link and scan through them all. Perhaps there are 5 pages worth of threads. They only click on the ones that interest them. Each individual click marks them as "read". When they are done, they may have only read a small handful of them. So they click "mark all forums read" so that those same threads they didn't open won't show up again when they click on "new posts" tomorrow.
