Hi All

Heading to NYC in a two weeks (Thanksgiving weekend)

I'm from Canada and our shoe selection here isn't great, was wondering if anyone had good recommendations for shoe stores. So far from reading around on the forums I've seen stores like Leffot and Epaulet floating around, but no one has really given any definitive answers.

Looking for two pairs of boots and a pair of shoes.

Probably can't afford EG etc. but willing to pay up to $600-700 a pair (thinking Alden/Rider Boot Co)

Are there going to be any Black Friay/Thanksgiving sales while I'm there or should I not bother looking for those?

Thanks!

There're a number of Allen Edmonds stores in Manhattan, you would want to check them out.

There's an Alden store on Madison Ave if I remember correctly.

If you're a fan of C&J, they have a store on 56th street. I've been there, it's really nice.

Citishoes has shoes from Alden, Church's, and Allen Edmonds. Barneys should also have some selection of C&J as well.

Leffot's great but my complaint is that they have a very limited stock in terms of size range. At a 10.5, I can cruise the website and add up my options....It comes down to just a handful of choices, and this does not take into account whether I like that style or make.

In comparison, Bespoke England has 18 G&G in my size. Leffot? None. I wonder how Bespoke can have such a stock. I suspect they have an arrangement with G&G and are not ponying up the kind of capital it would take to carry that wide a range.

I run into the same problem shopping for Carmina at Epaulet or at the Armoury on line. You have to be constantly watching for new stock.

I like the selection at Paul Stuart. With G&G, Grenson Masterpiece, C&J, among a range of makers, you have a nice range at a variety of price points.

I was just at Leffot yesterday.

I was told they are about to start stocking AS Exclusive grade shoes.

I think this is very good news as the Exclusive grade runs at a price point more or less comparible to C&J benchgrades, And I prefer the leather in the AS shoes to that of C&J benchgrades.

You also might try the Ralph Lauren Mansion - particularly if there is a sale - which I presume there would be on Thanksgiving weekend. The sales are where the retailers can beat the manufacturer's own stores, more often than not. The 'specialty shoe stores' rarely have big sales. They are more focused on service than on price more often than not.

How much would a AS Exclusive grade shoe run me? Feel like they tip the scales over $1000?

Thanks all for all the recommendations - will definitely check out the Ralph Lauren Mansion, C&J, Citishoes, Barneys and Paul Stuart

Never really looked at Ralph Lauren stores for shoes - what could I expect to see there?

Go to the Allen Edmonds store that is right across from the Madison Avenue Brooks Brothers. It is a tiny store, and if any one else is there, half the floor will be covered by boxes, but it is a cool little store and you can go to Brooks Brothers and Paul Stuarts right across the street.

+1 do this, and hit C&J too! The RL mansion actually wasn't that great for shoes when I was there a couple of weeks ago. No Lindrick boots, and no EG shoes. A bunch of nice RLPL Italian made shoes though.

AS Exclusive should come in around $700ish including trees and shipping. Handgrades will run upwards of a grand.

Hi all

Just came back from NY and wanted to thank everyone for the recommendations.

Ended up going to all three Allen Edmonds stores near my hotel (the one on 6th, and the two on Madison) as well as the RL mansion, all the big dept stores and Leffot. Didn't make it out to Epaulet or Citishoes.

Purchased a pair of Rider boots, Church's and a few Allen Edmonds.

Quick snaps off my phone for anyone bored enough to look.
