This thread is intended to serve as a resource for those of you who are tired of v-necks, feel strangled by crew necks, or just want to show your sharp, shiny collarbones to the world.
While long the realm of the tall and emaciated, this thread welcomes the built, the bulky, the short, the shrimpy, the average, and the "athletic" (whatever the hell that actually means at this point).
Post your pics, fits, reviews, rants, raves, and recommendations.
I'll start with a few of my own, covering fit, composition, care, cost, quality, sizing, and sluttiness.
American Apparel summer loose crew
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
- fit: slim and long through the body with some taper; stacks nicely; sleeves are a bit on the short and wide side relative to the torso.
- composition: 100% cotton.
- care: machine wash and dry.
- cost: $20-something at retail, but never pay retail for AA.
- quality: somewhere in the range of mediocre to relatively acceptable. Like any AA shirt, it could fall apart on the first wear or it could last you for years. The cotton is relatively soft, but there's no real character to it and it doesn't have a particularly nice drape or anything.
- sizing: go TTS for a regular to slim fit, up one for a slouchy fit.
- sluttiness: minimal; more of a wink and a sly smile

BLK DNM t-shirt 5
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
- composition: 100% rayon
- care: machine wash and hang to dry (apparently it shrinks a ton if machine-dried)
- cost: $55 at Park & Bond, but can be had for < $30 on sale
- quality: the construction isn't amazing, but the rayon feels nice. It's a step up from AA, but not a top-tier t-shirt.
- sizing: down one for a relatively slim fit. TTS will probably give a dropped shoulder effect and risk veering off into muumuu territory. It's possible that it would work out if you go TTS and machine dry.
- sluttiness: pretty damn slutty. This shirt says that not only do you put out on the first date, but you probably take home randoms you meet at bars.
There's also a long-sleeve version that's decent, but the fit is a little odd; the sleeves are tight enough that I can see the veins in my forearms, but the armhole is cut weirdly low.

Silent taku and tonco
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
- composition: 100% cotton
- care: I just machine wash and dry. The neckline warps a tiny bit, but not necessarily in a bad way.
- cost: retail is > $100, but I've got one for $20 (back when Gilt had them all the time) and one for $40-something (from My Habit). I probably wouldn't pay more than $50.
- quality: pretty awesome, IMO. Both have some asymmetric seams, the construction feels solid, and the cotton has a really nice hand and drape to it (although it's not particularly thick).
- sizing: down one for both. TTS is going to look oversized.
- sluttiness: moderate for taku (you buy a stranger a drink), a little sluttier for tonco (you show said stranger how you can do that trick where you tie a cherry stem with your tongue).
