Listening to the scottish rock group Franz Ferdinand.  Went to see them play at the Avalon in Boston about a month ago and they rock.
I saw them in LA... they were very good, but I think their recent ascent to fame will bother me. Huntsman, if you don't like the sound of rapping, then there's really nothing I can recommend, because it's really part of the music. Also, if you like Zumpano, you really should listen to the New Pornographers. It's more developed than Zumpano is, but is the same saturated power pop (plus two Indie Rock gods songwriting alongside Carl Newman). Jimmy Swaggart once said "music is the new pornography," and I assume that is where their name came from. Their fame is escalating as well as Franz Ferdinand, but their music is just so damn good (especially Mass Romantic, their debut).

Literally in my CDP right now.... Rachael Yamagata (BMG, 2004) She's a recent artist out of the NYC area as far as I can tell.  The best comparison I can make is 2/3rds Vienna Teng, 1/3rd Diana Krall.  The music is mostly a mixture of pop, jazz, and a little blues.  Not groundbreaking, but nice. I'm probably going to try and see her perform at Joe's Pub in NYC after my first set of exams.

Right now I'm loving Green Day's "American Idiot". Also picked up Ana Jonsson's "We Are". Lately I've been listening to Sonny Rollins' "Way Out West", and Theloneius Monks' "Two Hours with Theloneius Monk".

Before I get stuck in traffic: - Ted Leo and the Pharmacists: Leaked songs from upcoming "Shake the Sheets" LP (Can't wait to buy the album) - Guided by Voices "Human Amusement at Hourly Rate" and their new album, to prepare for this weekend's concert. - "Garden State" Soundtrack (Mostly previously released, but the film gave a new lease on life to songs I didn't really care about otherwise) - The Shins, Zero 7, Thievery, Iron and Wine... - Anything my iPod shuffles in front of me.

Excellent. Ted Leo / Pharamacists are awesome with a capital A. And Guided by Voices are awesome too. It's a bummer that Half-Smiles of the Decomposed is their last album. Goodbye to the kinds of lo-fi pop. Garden State soundtrack... I give it a 7.5 out of 10. Not too much of a fan, but it's definitely above average for movie ost's these days.

Hey, a kindred TL/Rx fan. I'm tellin ya, this album sounds GREAT. He's definitely a guy who deserves some credit - and some success. For the uninitiated, he's got a Clash/Billy Bragg lyrical sensibility and a punk/New Wave-ish sound, without being gimmicky about it. Really soulful, thoughtful, rockin stuff. Great covers live, too: Irish trad. "Dirty Old Town," Stiff Little Fingers "Suspect Device," Split Enz "Six Months in a Leaky Boat." I admit the GS ST is played out, but I still like the music. I hear the "Wicker Park" st is even more indie name-dropping. I'm seeing GBV this weekend, and since it's the "last" tour, I'm looking forward to an even looonger, more self indulgent set than usual. Should be great.

The "indie name dropping" of late is starting to frustrate me. All of these famous pop punk bands are dropping the Shins like it's the new Velvet Underground.

I've been listening to a lot of Jimmy Buffett lately. Must be my dire efforts to hold on to summer before it totally goes away.

Bowie has many great tracks. I've recently taken an interest in him.

Here's a game for you kiddies: find the three artists that don't fit on this list.
