Jos. A Banks suit/tux sizing? (looking for cheap tuxedo)

I've been looking for a 38R or slim 40R tuxedo for ages. SB, 1 button, Peak lapel, you know the drill...nothing decent comes up on Ebay or here. If it does, it's every third month.

However, I see that Jos. A Banks are selling tuxedos like that for 200 bucks, on sale now. Even in wool (most 100-200$ tux on ebay are Poly), just can't seem to find any better deals than that. Especially not brand new.

Anyway, I'm usually a slim. 38R to Slim 40R.

Narrow/18-18.25'' shoulders.

Any idea if I should size down on JAB? I've hear so many horror stories around here on their boxy old-man cuts.

Don't do it.

1) Vents.  Can't buy a JAB tux without them.

2) Pants: Huge.  I am a 32 waist, big thighs from cycling, and could still fit both of my legs into one pant leg.

Thanks. I was afraid that the pants would be huge. The venting doesn't bother me, can live with a center vent.

I found some ebay seller that is selling brand new JOB tuxedos for 49$-100$, same as on the website...however, it seems to be impossible to find any decent size charts or measurements anywhere.

Do anyone have better options? Keep in mind, I'll be wearing a tux once a year max (NYE), which is why I want to keep it as cheap as possible.

Also, I get free tailoring. Which is why I'm contemplating on JAB.

Does the buy 1 get 3/4/5/1 million free apply to tuxedos as well?

The Signature Peak Lapel tuxedo is ventless. It also has silk grosgrain facings, lined pants and a Bemberg lining. During one of their sales, it can be had for about $300 at best, maybe $350 for other sales. It is tough finding a tuxedo with these characteristics, especially at this price range. It is, however, only available in their classic fit, so you will need some tailoring done to get it to fit better. I found the pants to fit average - no slimmer or tighter than other pants from other makers in the same size. Here is the link: http://www.josbank.com/menswear/shop/Product_11001_10050_101786

Looks like it is on sale for $299 right now.

For a reasonably priced tuxedo for a slim guy, try Suitsupply. Single button, peak lapel, can't remember venting. ~$500 or so. Stuff never goes on sale so don't bother trying to wait out a sale.

Also, love that tdubs first post was a knock on JOSB.

I'll check out SS. Right now, since I'm located in Norway, I don't think I want to take the risk on a JAB, since they're so notoriously big in sizing. After searching around, it seems like I'd need to go to 37R in order to get something fitting...and I have no idea if there's any sleeve allowance. Their 40 tuxedos seem to be 20'' across shoulders, while I'm 18''.

I'm also contemplating on trying the cheapest of the cheap online MTM makers. Since I'm either way dealing with the low-end tuxedos, wool poly blends don't bother me(get what you pay for), and I might as well go for the best looking "shit" suit/tux.

Good catch- their sales staff assured me that they didn't sell tuxes without vents.

i looked at tuxes from JAB and Suit Supply for my wedding. JAB didn't have any of the deep discount sales when i was looking. bought and returned a Suit Supply tux because the legs were too tight.

i ended up buying a one button, peak lapel, ventless tuxedo from the wizard of aahs on ebay. that might be an option for you. the only thing i didn't like about the tux was that it had flaps on the jacket pockets. but that's an easy fix as i just tucked them into the pockets.

i don't remember what i paid. it was around 275 or so.
