I'd argue that Ren was the Anakin we should have got. His character and acting portrayed a depth that Anakin never approached in the prequels. Was he OT Vader? Well, no. But they didn't intend him to be. The character was completely different, but it worked.

Vader was a bad ass and confident from the first moment you see him in ANH. Kylo is a conflicted character. Torn on what he really wants. Untrained. Raw. There really shouldn't be a direct comparison.

Plagueis was also a Muun. Snoke didn't look like that species. Doesn't mean it's not all part of the OZ "man behind the curtain" theme many think they are going for, but until we see how that plays out I don't think he could be Plagueis.

I suppose that depends on what you are into...unless they do some CGI or actress swapping, this is what she is going to look like when the mask comes off:

Or this:

Gwen Christie is stupid hot.

Mix the future-shirt and fantasy-armor and you are pretty much there!

Vader was one of cinema's greatest villains; did anyone feel menace from Ren? Outside of stopping the laser blast was there any badassness? At the very least he should have kept his mask on until the meeting on the catwalk.

That last shot was a TV shot.

Cant recreate Darth vader...

FWIW, Snoke can't be Plaguis because they wrote a Plaguis/Palpatine book that, I believe, was released right after Disney retconned the EU. I think it fell past the cutoff, and so was "new canon." Basically Palpatine killed him.

Also, I would rate TFA above RotJ - but not ANH or ESB.

wouldn't say its > ROTJ, TFA feels like modern ANH, definitely better than prequels

 really until someone explained the hate to me, i never thought twice about it.

I saw RoTJ before anything else back in russia when i was 5 and loved the movie. Then i saw all of the saga here a few years later when my family emigrated and have been a fan since.

And yet they dressed him like Vader, had him act like Vader and gave him a cooler sword than Vader.

Now if the point was that he's not Vader - yet - that could have been handled much better than this.

Friend of mine and I were joking about how awesome it would be if they troll audiences by having a badass fighter pilot in the next film who just happens to be an ewok or gungan.

They clearly establish Kylo Ren has a Vader fetish. Why is it scrambling people's brains that Ren would want to emulate the way Vader looked?

This is the actual purpose of the forum - for men to emulate and be seen in styles they've encountered from others on the interwebz.

Whoa. That was meta.

Princess Leia has serious old lady weird voice now. I found it a little distracting how she talks.

She reminded me of Ann Miller's character from Mulholland Drive.

They made him a distinct unstable character who is a vader fanboy which is x10 better than making him a new lame Vader. Him removing the mask is very telling; he is not vader for him it's still a costume because he is torn and still very much in conflict between the light and the dark side of him. That's why his powers are so inconsistent during the movie he can go from stopping blast in midair to getting wounded by a novice like Finn or Rey. He pretty much lacks focus in same way as Luke did in ESB. Imo character is brilliant agreat villian with distinct character and not all black and white. I love TOT but I gotta give them some credit for characters of Rey and Kylo they are very well made.

I watched the movie last night and I so wanted it to be good. Was it worth my fifteen dollars? Absolutely, but this movie followed the same instant-gratification objectives that all action and comic book movies follow. There was no development of character - the scavanging girl was the same badass at the beginning of the movie as she was at the end. The defecting stormtrooper had these heavy-handed narrative moments where Darth Jr. had to stop and notice him for his wavering loyalty, only to move on. There was the creature that Han wanted the gang to go see whose attitude and look reminded me of Edna Mode from The Incredibles.
