They were insanely, meticulously faithful to the books. The only other example of that sort of fidelity I can think of is The Princess Bride (in that case the novel's author was also the screenwriter for the movie).

Oh yeah: I forgot about the whole "Palpatine just threw Vader under the bus" part. biggrin.gif

I agree with you: I'm just saying that it isn't unheard of evil characters being forgiven/redeemed by a single good act.

It's true. It certainly makes for a more interesting movie than a character who undertakes years/decades of penance. That would be boring AF.

I wonder what Palpatine's plan was after he killed Luke.

Vader: Dude, were you really trying to replace me?
Emperor: Listen, Darth... we need to talk.

Remember that Vader motives were egoistical as well he wanted to use Luke to overthrow Palpy in ESB-ROTJ, only as plot of ROTJ progresses he begins to crack

It's a testament to how important the Star Wars franchise is to people that so much discussion and debate can be held on a single movie that came out months ago. Compare that to Civil War, which while a good flick, seems to be largely immune to fanboy nit-picking.

"We must be accountable!" *goes recruits a young kid with 6 months experience to fight in his war.* Good job Tony, you fool. tounge.gif

EDIT: Speaking of which, if Disney is really trying to push this SJW/Feminist agenda then how come we have yet to see a single MARVEL film with a female as the main character and hero? It's been how many years?

Because it wouldn't sell. :P

There has been a lot of anger about that, but they were writing all new characters for SW, whereas for Marvel the most popular established characters are all men, aren't they?

From my youthful memories (I was 6 when Star Wars came out) no kids really wanted to be Luke, even to 6yr olds he wasn't that cool.

I always wanted to be Han

The thing about Vader's redemption...is that he dies anyways.

Don't really have to deal with all of the consequences of his terrible acts. He has an internal redemption, and then dies. The rest of the universe probably still finds him terrifying and has no idea what happened in the final moments. Heck, even Luke probably still thinks he was an ass.

It is a little different from, say, Jaime Lannister who is somewhat on a path towards redemption, but clearly isn't forgiven (and never will be) by many that he encounters.

All good points. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I will be curious to see whether Luke says anything about how he feels about Vader and his legacy in the upcoming movies. From what I read of the new book that's coming out, the big revelation that Vader was Leia's father (between ROTJ and TFA) effectively torpedoed her political career (at least for a while).

I am the only Disney female lead that ever mattered. Look forward to my live action film, starring Emma Stone as Mulan, whenever that comes out.

For real though, I think Black Widow will eventually get her own movie.
