That said, I do think it would make a good movie, and Thrawn seems like a logical choice for them... And Eggybread Wonderlatch would make an excellent Thrawn.
I think part of that may be the bias from remembering loving it as a kid. I picked it up for the first time recently because of this thread and, despite my lack of Star Wars love, thoroughly enjoyed it. There is certainly some odd material - Joruus is as strange a character as I've read in any work. But Thrawn is a fantastic villain. He's deep, ruthless, and cunning. His knowledge of different war tactics based on the commanders' cultures, while a bit far-fetched, works well in the Star Wars universe. Again, I'm a SW rookie so it may not be true to canon or what have you, but it was an extremely fun read.
