I don't think I made it to the end of the first movie, didn't even know these continued into the original trilogy. Not sure I finished DM of the Rings either, though I read a lot more of those. (Having played quite a bit of D&D in the 80's there were a lot of hilariously recognizable situations there.)

In short, JJ is clueless about astronomy and distances. :D

Having [the Death Star 3.0] destroy many [planets], but from really far away adds nothing to the danger, but it puts the stupidity factor through the roof.

Nothing for storytelling, ramped up stupidity. That about sums up Abrams.

This is a problem JJ Abrams makes over and over again in his movies — he doesn’t think through the consequences of his writing. He mortgages the future for a brief hit of surprise. In STAR TREK, now anyone ought to be able to make a red matter missile that can destroy a whole planet. The transwarp beaming that he invented means that people in Star Trek could beam themselves or weapons across the universe, obviating the need for starships. With Khan’s blood, you can bring people back from the dead. No more drama.

The latest (final?) despecialized edition of ROTJ hit today.
Well, two days ago actually :-)

And not the final one, according to Harmy. As mentioned above, he plans to do a 1080p v3.0 of all three. On the Original Trilogy forum he even mentioned a possible v4.0, though I don't recall what the planned changes were for that.

Edit: Found this:

Essentially, for color correction just upscaling the 720p masters and applying it as a chroma (color) layer over the 1080p BD and replacing the Despecialized shots with just quick 1080p 35mm cleanups and then making v4.0 the final polished versions with new color corrections and more careful cleanup and rotoscoping and stuff (for SW, this would basically be almost the same as working on v2.6 and for the other two, it should be a fairly fast process, since by that point I should have all the 35mm shots ready at 1080p anyway).

I've got the ROTJ 2.5.

For those of you who downloaded it from me--I'll host it tonight. My server must have shut down, as I can't seem to access it right now and can't fix it until I get home.

I am satisfied with whatever versions I just watched. ESB really is a good movie, too.

Alright, those of you who downloaded the other despecialized editions from me...I have placed the v2.5 ROTJ in the same place.

If anyone else wants in on a copy, just shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up.

This is the best article anyone has ever written about anything:

Luke Skywalker’s Battle of Yavin Medal Ceremony Jacket

This look is untouchable. Equally at home in the vast galactic void, the roller rink, or on your princess/sister’s bedroom floor, this maize-colored space-satin-and-polyester lady slayer is the jacket that started it all. Accept no substitutes.

I lol'd so hard.
