If that would still be helpful, something can be arranged.

Frankly, that would be appreciated still @otc. I made an attempt at torrenting the despecialized editions and wound up virused. Had to erase the whole hard drive and restore from a backup.

I had a similar problem but managed to decontaminate - took a few hours. The culprit in my case was the video player I foolishly downloaded (not the torrent). Be careful out there.

And saying they used the standards of the time is only partly true. Yoda in ESB shows what could be done at that time with enough effort and money. They didn't put the effort into the puppets and costumes at Jabba's palace, not because they couldn't or didn't think it would be better, but because it would have been a huge, expensive enterprise to invest that much in every little creature.

On the other hand, I don't mind at all the look of the scene OTC showed above. I guess different people find different things distracting.

They work for me. You are right they could have never afforded to do every creature at the level they did Yoda. If anything that backs up my point that these are a time capsule of the time. They worked within what their budget would have allowed with the technology they had. These days everything would be CGI, but at the time ROTJ was made that wasn't possible. Again, I see the hard work of the special effects artists for the film as part of it's charm. I wouldn't want them to go back and erase all the puppets and put CGI replacements instead anymore then I would want to see them do that for the man in suit creature in the original black and white Godzilla. Disney should put effort into getting the GOUT versions of these films out on Blu-Ray and move on to future films. It's not like the films we are watching now won't look dated in 30 years either. That's life.

Oh noes!!! It was not to keep the plot under wraps: http://www.hypable.com/star-wars-toymakers-specifically-directed-to-exclude-rey/

Of course, the headline buries the lede - even young boys think Kylo Ren is a whiny little bitch and don't want his action figure.

That's interesting - I assumed it was for spoiler's sake, preserving her identity as the force-user when so much went into showing Finn w/ the lightsaber.

All of this comes from "sources" and no one directly at Disney. Taking it at face value it could also be read that Disney overbought and saturated stores/warehouses with Kylo Ren figures and it exceed market demand. Not that there was no market demand in the first place.

Regarding Rey, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was true. It was obvious they under-bought figures her figures assuming there wouldn't be enough demand because little boys want to play with male figures and little girls want princess dolls. Or so that's what the narrative told them. They really should have known better considering her key role in the film.

This proposed assumption of theirs would have also ignored the fact that this being Star Wars a large portion of the population investing in these figure may not be young children. Adult collectors have fairly deep pockets. Male or female.

I have seen every version of Star Wars, including opening week in 1977, and the DS version of E4 that I watched the other day brought back the old excitement in a way that none of the others did.

Wait until you see DS ESB. I really enjoyed that. And when I am done with ROTJ, I will watch ANH.

Ok, for those of you still looking for the Despecialized Editions, shoot me a PM and I can give you a link to download them direct.

Since someone mentioned an issue downloading a player to play them, I always suggest VLC for playing any media from the internet...there may be fancier players out there, but VLC just works.
https://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Direct windows download link: https://get.videolan.org/vlc/2.2.1/win32/vlc-2.2.1-win32.exe
Direct mac download link: https://get.videolan.org/vlc/2.2.1/macosx/vlc-2.2.1.dmg

There are various ways to play them on a TV...easiest would be an HDMI cable from your computer (or DVI-HDMI plus an audio cable). But some blu ray/smart tvs know how to play files like this off of a USB drive.

I've been using my Chromecast and it works well. There are several software packages that let you stream any file format to it.

Last time I watched my DVD set of the 'Specialized' versions I vowed to never watch those again, as all the little changes were just too distracting (like those annoyingly unnecessary additions to Mos Eisley), so I'd been meaning to get around to figuring out how to get the despecialized versions, and this seems like the perfect time for that.

JR, which software do you use to play over your Chromecast?

otc, how large are the files? (And PM sent.)

VLC is great. I use it to watch my dl porn movies all the time. I never have to worry about the format not playing.

I usually use this: http://getvideostream.com/

PLEX is another good option and is feature rich. Just keep in mind they paywall some of the best features.
