I knew this was here somewhere, took me almost two beers to find it but Ata has an interesting point when it comes to the new Star Wars film. Because the man the woman fights is pretty effeminate and not at all like a traditional man. I know this is a galaxy far far away and they may not really even be the same species as us but there it is. I have no doubt Re-female could have beaten Re-male.

what if

Luke is actual leader of the knights of Ren. Maybe after the murder of his students he killed the assailants and fallen to the dark side? Snoke is his adviser and first apprentice before he tried to make an academy. Kylo Ren will finally give in to the light, and renounce dark side. And Kylo Ren will finish what Vader started so he will truly bring balance to the force killing Luke in final duel but suffering mortal wounds ending the Skywalker lineage.

Yes, that's exactly what I did.

I take it all back. Upper body strength, reach, mass, speed -- insignificant next to the power of the force (of political correctness).

This is the same universe that a young man with barely any training managed to use the force to make a pinpoint accurate shot to without his tracking screen to blow up the first Deathstar. The fact that it bothers you so much that a woman could defeat a man in combat using the force says worlds about you more then anything else. Let's ignore the fact that Kylo had been badly wounded by what was shown to be one of the most powerful handheld weapons in the movie, was suffering the emotional distress of just killing his father and just fought another "able bodied male" moments before.

Even ignoring all that, there is plenty of subtext in the movie that Kylo might not have been all that invested in killing her. Speculation can go wild here, but I suspect if this proves to be true it will become clear in Ep 8.

You're forgetting that KR is a whiny little bitch. Ridley is a pretty good actress so the Mary Sue-ness of her character is easily overlooked.

The more I think about this movie the more confused I am as to why they just rehashed ep4.

I don't understand the hate for rehashing 4. 4 was good. After three servings of GL's poop on a stick, a rehash of 4 sets things up nicely. I suspect the "nostalgia" aspect will be heavy handed in VII as a way to draw people back in. I suspect it will disappear thereafter as the universe takes off on its own, cinematically and with all the accompanying literature in different formats. This movie just brings us back to speed.

Get all the nostalgia and ripoffs out of the way early.

Like they did with Star Trek, right.

It's people!. Soylent green is people!

By the way, does anyone get the feeling that the whole "Knights of Ren" thing exists purely to provide level bosses for video games and fodder for comic books and cartoons? Or will Daisy have to fight one of them every 18 months for the foreseeable future?

Well, given it's not in JJ's hands for VII and IX, your assumption based on Into Darkness is moot.

The Force can move an X-Wing out of a swamp. Luke's muscles could not.
