But it has. He was a student of Obi Wan Kenobi, who thought he could train him as well as Yoda. He was wrong. Vader was seduced by the dark side. He helped the empire hunt down and destroy the jedi. That's all anyone ever needed to hear about it. Vader wasn't "the most powerful jedi ever" -- far from it. In the original movies he got beat by a barely trained kid and easily killed by the emperor.

The thing that disappointed me the most about the prequels was the wholesale adoption of the ridiculous lightsaber crap from ROTJ. The lightsaber was presented in the first two movies as being like a samurai sword -- a traditional, ceremonial weapon that might occasionally be used in duels or to punish peasants who offended you. It wasn't supposed to be a serious weapon of war and presenting it that way made the new movies even more cartoonish and ridiculous than they were already, and that's saying something.

Ata's not wrong here. You wouldn't go to battle with a Samurai sword, that was reserved for individual duels. And the weapons used in the prequel were pathetic, you have a droid army and the best you can muster against a Jedi is a robot that shoots real fast? Lob a fucking grenade at a Jedi and see him deflect that with his/her/xer fucking lightsabre.

I'm not a fan of arguments against this film playing up nostalgia for the OT. I've little doubt that TFA will feel somewhat familiar and safe to audiences. That's not a bad thing and if anything is just what the franchise needs to kick itself off again after the mess that was the prequels. Disney knows they need to connect to the nostalgia many have for the OT to build confidence in the movies going forward. As long as it's a good story, that's what matter most. Once this films accomplishes these goals and is successful, they will take more risks with future installments.

The kids of the older cast fighting each other is not a good story. It's just lame.

In general, Ep.VI launched a slide that took Jedi's (and Sith) from being bad-asses to being magic superheroes. That was unfortunate and while tolerable in VI as an absolute limit, it was ridiculous in I-III. Remember how impressive it was that Yoda could lift the X-Wing in ESB? In I-III Jedi and Sith could hurl chunks of buildings with a wave of the hand. If you have super-powered telekenisis, sword fighting is kind of silly no matter how it is done.

It's like the star trek transporter. I'm taking a dime-sized piece of an artery wall from inside your brain, not trying to cut you with a laser sword. Adios.

It's worse than that. Transporter seemed to be something particularly difficult. People died using it in the Motion Picture. Then the Jar Jar Abrams movies come out and you can transport people halfway around the galaxy in warp speed from some shit outpost on a planet of snow where they haven't gotten rations in a decade. Fucking garbage.

I can't claim credit, don't know where I first read it.

I believe I saw it on reddit in a thread about what would happen if the new SW movie was terrible. The originator (as far as I know) said we should all call him that.

I'm still bugged about BB-8. Why make it have a rolling body? If it winds up having a bunch of R2D2-like sensors and doors all over it, which in order to get around have to roll along on the ground, that will suck.
