Disney Buys Lucasfilm For $4 Billion! STAR WARS EPISODE VII Scheduled For 2015 Release! - Page 8

These additional character films are either going to be brilliant or a total disaster. It's toeing the line, and I can't tell which way they are going to go.

Might as well. That hack Lucas ripped off Hidden Fortress to make Star Wars, so might as well continue plundering from more talented dead directors.
It has been quite a while since I saw either movie, and I saw them far apart in time. I recall that the opening sequence on Tattoine obviously references/pays homage to/rips off the beginning of Hidden Fortress. Do the similarities, either in terms of plot or visuals, continue as strongly throughout? I just don't remember.

This, unless you have a piece of the merchandising pie.

Totally botched my interlineation of Aravenel's post, but you get the idea . . .

Hahaha, that is awesome.

Both of those have some potential to be entertaining at least.

There is some extended universe content for both but lets be honest, you could make up an action-adventure film for either character pretty quick without breaking canon.

I'm a huge Star Wars geek, but I honestly find the whole obsession with Boba Fett overdone. In the original trilogy he was a somewhat interesting character that had a few good moments and then got killed by a blind man. I see no reason that he needs books, video games and now movies made about him. Let alone writing him into lore as to share such a strong bond with the classic Storm Troopers. It's too much.

Seems Abrams is in talks with gabe Newell to make a half life or portal movie.

Not super enthused about the character-centric stories being proposed, but I do still hold out faith that Ep. VII will be at the very least entertaining.

Also agree w/ JMR about the strange obsession w/ Boba Fett.

Would not mind a Mara Jade movie (assuming the EU is not completely blown away by VII).

Now a movie about a young Han Solo and his early adventures with Chewbacca? I'm all over that. Perfect spin-off idea for a film to branch out the franchise.

It definitely has to include an explanation of how they did the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs (this has bothered me ever since I learned what a parsec actually is).

My main issue with a Han-centered story is the lack of Jedi-ness involved. For me (for better or worse, due to the prequels) Star Wars just isn't worth it without lightsabers.

I may not be remembering this quite right but IIRC, the kessel run requires navigating around/through a cluster of black holes. Doing this is a shorter distance requires a faster/more powerful ship since it requires being able to go closer to the black holes. A faster ship will experience a shorter radius on the point of no return (event horizon) and will thus be able to fly a more direct route. A slow ship will have to take wide turns around the black holes to avoid being sucked in.

I am pretty sure it is an explanation devised after the fact to explain why a measurement of distance was used...but hey, it works.
